Advantages: Fully comprehensive - Jam/Style Council included; great music; well packaged; available for bargain prices Disadvantages: does not include the original version of 'that's entertainment.' A real shame!
Released for the christmas market in 2006 and because Paul also won the BRIT award for outstanding contribution to British music that year, a comprehensive greates hits, including songs from the Jam and Style Council days, as well as Paul's solo career was needed. After all, the man Weller had managed a 30 year career!
Universal released a single CD and a twin DVD (both also called 'HitParade') but in my opinion, the 4cd boxset "HitParade," which I am reviewing is the most superior.
Firstly - if you like to be a comprehensive music fan - go for the 4 cd boxset. It is well worth the price. If you shop around, you can get hold of it for the same price as the solo CD (I did) and logic dictates, the 4 cd set is going to be more comprehensive than a single CD. The single CD is good but it contains 23 tracks, this 4 CD boxset has 64 ...
Advantages: Relaxing story telling music with a bit of heart Disadvantages: Too boring
OK album, with a nice mix of different artist most of which i have never hear of before. As you can probably tell I'm not usually into this kind of music but being someone always looking to expand my musical horizons, I thought i would give it a go but was not too impressed.
Most of the songs featured were not too impressive, many of which sounded very boring and generic for the genre.
Track 15, Green Fields of France - Furey & Davey Arthur was probably one of the most impressive tracks on the album; this song featured delicately sung lyrics and an impressive story which i think is based on world war 2. Some of the other tracks were almost up to this standard but were too boring and didn't catch my attention. ...
Advantages: The 6 number 1 records Disadvantages: The rest of the tracks are rubbish
can't really be classed as disco even though its origins are rooted there. The track name did spawn a new musical genre though.
2. Ain't Nothing But A House Party - The Contours. If this was ever a hit anywhere then I can't find any references to it nor could I find a release year, the song itself is a Motown tune. Definately not disco, not even close.
3. Another Man - Barbara Mason. From 1984, its best position was #45 in the UK charts so it can't be considered to be a hit in any way, shape or form. The Americans said it was R&B and it reached #68 in that chart. So not a hit and certainly not disco.
4. Saddle Up - David Christie. Also from 1984, this album isn't doing very well as far as Disco era tunes goes so far is it? Christie was a French 1 hit wonder and this is it, I could only find 1 chart listing this as a hit and that was ...
