After the success of follow the leader, korn were superstars. Everything was going well for them, so a year after the album they released " Issues " in November of 1999. To promote this album they done a gig in the New York Apollo the night before the release of the album. They played every track on the album to give the fans a taster of the album. Just the fact of that korn were bringing out a new album and that they are my best band made me buy this album, i got this on import from HMV and it cost me a straggering 21 pounds. This isnt korns best album but it is still stunning.
Track Listing - - - - - - - -
1. Dead - - - - - A mellow song which last just over a minute, its a song which features low vocals and johnathan davis bagpipes. A nice song which could be counted as a love song although their are not much lyrics in it. Not best track on the album but still a good intro to the album itself. The song is about johnathan wanting to be happy and when he does become happy somthing takes the happiness away from him.
2. Falling Away From Me - - - - - - - - - - - - Argubly, the best song on the album. A heavy song, this song was the first song to be released from the album. The video was directed by Limp Bizkit frontman fred Durst. It starts with a echo riff which itself is very catchy, the bass then comes into it then the heavy stuff kicks in. Johnathan provides harmonies with heaviness which makes this a classic korn song. Plus the riff is easy to play on the guitar which may please young korn fans. The song is about abuse thats why the name, somthing like " life is falling away from me ", no one needs to be treated like that.
3. Trash - - - - - A deep and heavy song. the song kicks in with the clash of symbols and bass and then john lays down his low melodic voice to the song. A catchy chorus and a bridge make this a good song. Originally korn was going to release this song but they never managed too. I agree that they should of.The song is about johnathan davis life on the road and how he threw everything away and he went crazy.
4. 4U - - - - Again, another short and melodic songs, all off korn short songs on this album are superb. they let johnathans melodies flow. This song is about giving things to one special person. hence the lyric " This shit right here is for you ". A great song but it could of been a bit longer.
5. Beg For Me - - - - - - - A heavy song but maybe it has the catchiest chorus on the album. Weird noises and riffs throughout make this a good song. Not a filler track but i dont think they could of released it as the lyrics are a bit poor. hence the line " who gives a fuck, if my live sucks ". The song is about the crowd begging for him to make him feel good. He wants to feel wanted as he was shuffled around when he was a kid, so on stage he wants the anxiety to go away.
6. Make Me Bad - - - - - - - - One of the best songs on the album, this song was the 2nd track to be released from the album. In the video is features hollywood superstar Bridgette Nielsen. A melodic chorus with a heavy intro and a heavy bridge, i like this song but it is not my personal best. The song is about being married to one women and his feelings for other women and it makes him so mad that he has been with other women so he ends his marriage.
7. Its Gonna Go Away - - - - - - - - - - Another short track from the album, mainly it sounds like a rant about things going away as the lyrics do not vary. It sounds like this has been done on a keyboard not guitars. I like this song as it calms me down somtimes.
8. Wake Up - - - - - - An OK song but this is a weakness on the album as its full of cuss words and the song sounds like somthing a kid could make up on the street. i only like the chorus and the bridge. The song is one of the worst on the album. The chorus is very heavy, probably the heaviest on the album apart from falling away from me.I dont know what this song means because he only mentions waking up and dying, so ill leave you all to guess.
9. Am I Going Crazy - - - - - - - - - - A short track on the album, probably the worst track. It has nothing going for it and johnathan sings like he is a kid. I dont know what the song is about but maybe its about his craziness. A ok song but i dont like it, maybe others will.
10. Hey Daddy - - - - - - - One of my personal best on the album. Makes me upbeat although the lyrics are kind of depressing. The chorus is world class and the bridge is even better. heavy guitaring and bass combined with johnathan singing. This is also excellent live, a great song. Hey daddy is about his two sided life and how to cope with it, Daddy is johnathans nickname so its himself talking to himself.
11. Somebody Someone - - - - - - - - - - Another one of my personal favourites. This song was the last song to be released from the album. Its heavy bassline during the chorus with johnathans shouting is the best part. This is superb live especially when the guitarist joins in the singing. The song is about being treated like shit and needing someone there, someone special.
12. No Way - - - - - - Without doubt the worst song on the album. Ive listened to this song over and over and i still cant get into it. The riffs are poor and so is the singing. I think this is a song to fill up the album. I dont know what the song means but maybe it means, no way should this be put on the album :)
13. Lets Get This Party Song - - - - - - - - - - - - - - A good song with a catchy intro riff a bit like the second track on the album, although this is much harder to play. I like this song although the chorus is weak but it doesnt let much down. This song is about being on a new tour and getting things started off well, and not letting down the fans.
14. Wish You Could Be Mine - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Another short track, Not listened to this track much and ive found nothing bad about it, i could get to like this song. This song is about all the girls he has seen and knew he wanted but couldnt because he was already married.
15. Couting - - - - - - A great song with superb riffs throughout. The tempo changes a lot and so does his singing. This is great live and the bass is stunning throughout. I also like the chorus and its very catchy and easy to sing along to. I dont yet know what this song means but maybe it means counting down to somthing.
16. Dirty - - - - - My best track on the album and theyve saved the best to last. A slow start to the song and then it speeds up when the chorus starts. A lot of cuss words are involved and the aggression begins when the bridge begins. I loved this song when they played it live and it makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.
Conclusion - - - - - This is not korns best album but its their latest offering until their new album comes out in a few months, if you are a korn fan i suggest you buy this after you get the others. A good addition and the artwork
Advantages: A different style for Korn and they play it well. Disadvantages: Some tracks are too short and now and again are a bit weak.
After having a great result with Follow The Leader and various singles such as Freak On A Leash reaching high in the charts KoRn decided to release this album in November 99. It seems that in this album KoRn have thought about this album alot more than their past albums because if you compare songs such as Beg For Me and Falling Away From Me to Dirty and 4U you will notice that they have a totally different tempo, when in past albums various songs ... ...KoRn's vocalist's (Jonathan Davis) problems and his pain and suffereing but it seems that he has learnt to control his anger and lets it out when he feels the time is right. Also Korn held a competition with MTV for people to design a front cover, which also shows that they care for their fans.

Advantages: Better than "Fallow the Leader" Disadvantages: Not good by my standards
Korn really hasn't had a good album since “Life is peachy” and well “Issues” doesn’t live up to it either. Though a lot better than their last attempt it still isn’t by any means a good rock album. Ever since they became a regular at MTV their music has gotten softer and thus not good. It’s a shame how MTV has soften these bands. It’s not the bands fault that they are singled out nor is it MTVs fault ... ...fell of all those fans are screaming at the songs you know aren't your best work. So you must produce more of them to keep your new fans happy but losing your old ones. Its called revolution lose the good fans for more of the new ones. So that’s when you become “soft”. Maybe the best way to avoid this fate is just not to let your video on MTV. It worked for Pantera, I haven’t seen a video on MTV yet and I still consider them ...

Advantages: all classic tracks Disadvantages: The white noise at the end of the CD - why?
In a similar move to Coal Chamber, Korn return with album that has melodies (Yes that does say melodies) on it and the results are good, beating Coal Chamber’s Chamber Music. Without a doubt it’s Korn’s best album to date, with tracks like Falling Away From Me, Trash, Somebody Someone and Dirty it leaves Korn’s other releases behind. The Hip Hop element that was present on their previous release, Follow The Leader has gone and has been replaced by ... ...I liked the Hip Hop thing as well, but I this is better. There are a few things about the album I don’t like. Wake Up is a good verse spoiled by the rest of the song and the white noise that takes the places of the secret track on the normal version of the album is annoying. If you own no Korn albums, start here. ...

Advantages: A deep and meaningful side of Korn, excellent music Disadvantages: Not the all out rage-fest some fans expected
It seems as though in this fourth album the rage that has been burning away inside Korn has started turning, as it always does, into dispair.
The songs have shifted from fast and powerful, wit strong and riotous lyrics, to a more thoughtful and deep level. There is less of the amp wrecking guitars and violent screaming, and more melodic, almost relaxing guitar riffs, with quiet eerie words painting a picture of anger, sorrow, self-loathing, and ... ...parts where the Korn’s raw power boils to the surface, Make Me Bad has to be one of my favourite songs of all time, it has the strong and aggressive guitars playing to an almost beautiful tune, and it still has the "make you want to dance like an angry pogo-stick" effect.
For fans of super-moshathonery (mega-heavy-music) this might not have the same appeal as Korn’s previous outings, this is almost a more mature Korn, older and wiser… they have ...

Advantages: lots of good songs Disadvantages: all merge into one
The most recent of KoRn's albums, not my personal favourite but still a damn good album.
What inspired me to buy it was their great sucessfullness with their previous albums such as Life is Peachy and Follow the Leader. The cover is also pretty grabbing- there's a few different ones as they got their fans to draw them and used 3/4 of them. The one I bought was an orange background, a pale falling apart toy bear. It does hit you and at least make ... ...CD, each a couple of minutes long and of the usual high KoRn quality. My favourite is one that was released as a single, Falling away from Me. Although the lyrics to each song are totally individual, if you just listen to the CD from start to end then you'll probably not notice the track changing as they all seem to have the same sort of beat. The CD is avaliable from most retailers such as Our Price (approx. £15) or MVC (approx £12). If you go to ...

Issues was the fourth studio album presented by Korn. At the time of release there were 5 members - Jonathon Davies, Munky, Fieldy, Head and David.
Issues is a completely brilliant album, full of the drums, lyrics and pure genius you would expect from Korn. It has the metal/rock sound we all know and love from KoRn.

Advantages: Some good songs Disadvantages: Some disturbing material covered
Korn?s first album has some of what I regard as their best songs on. Tracks like Blind, Predictable, Shoots and Ladders for example. Unfortunately there are also plenty of songs of dubious quality on the album. Don?t get me wrong ? they?re not dire, but compared to the quality of songs across some of the other albums, Issues for example, it?s disappointing (Depending on the order you buy the albums in I suppose). Despite the up and down quality of the songs, I would rate it as Korn?s second best album behind Issues, but those of a delicate nature would do best to avoid the final track on the album, as it may cause nausea ? you have been warned. ...

Advantages: Some great songs, the Hip Hop thing works well Disadvantages: Some duff tracks
Korn changed direction slightly on this album, adding a Hip Hop element (Assisted by Fred Durst and Ice Cube among others) to their sound. The album doesn?t actually start until track thirteen, prior to that it?s just silence. Also all the kids on the cover are making the sign of the devil with their hands, but this album is no more about devil worship than any of Korn?s other albums (That means not at all folks). The opening three tracks all merge into one with the tale of unwanted fame, Got the Life, being the best of the bunch and probably best on the album. Follow the Leader is also the album where Korn gain a sense of humour (Though it?s left them on Issues). All In the Family is a hilarious battle between Limp Bizkit and Korn as to whose the best band and the secret track, Earache my Eye is a bizarre song about a cross dressing ...
Korn: Jonathan Davis (vocals, bagpipes, drums, programming); Munky, Head (guitar); Fieldy (bass, programming); David Silveria (drums). Additional personnel: Jeffy Lube (programming). Recorded at A&M Studios, Hollywood, California and Southern Tracks Recording, Atlanta, Georgia. The music of Korn speaks to those on the fringes of society. The band's trademark hip-core has evolved into a more clearly defined but equally urgent musical vision. Korn's sense of musical urgency and its ambition to make its mark on music is furthered with ISSUES. "Beg for Me" is a track likely to incite the swirling pits at the band's legendary live shows. Showing that the group hasn't lost its down-to-earth sensibility, Korn invited fans to compete for the cover art of ISSUES, releasing versions featuring the winning piece as well as the efforts of three finalists. The emotional journey undergone by vocalist Johnathan Davis on tracks like "Hey Daddy" is truly strengthened by his movement away from his more abrasive vocal style and toward a more dominantly melodic approach. Davis digs more deeply into his tortured emotions on efforts such as "No Way," where he sings: "lately things aren't going my way / lately everything is gray / it feels like something / it feels like nothing." That hazy emotional landscape is what strikes a responsive chord with Korn fans and makes ISSUES a landmark album.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (1/20/00, p.56) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...the band moves from catharsis to careerism. They work hard to add melodies, mostly big, grunge-redux choruses, as if they want to be Soundgarden or, piling on static and distortion, Nine Inch Nails..." Q (1/00, p.116) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...impressively obsessive: every track has the same huge dynamic range, the same mood, the same message....[It] is dark, intelligent and very ugly..." CMJ (12/13/99, p.4) - "...ready to blast all non-believers to Kingdom Come....[striking] a rebellious, gut-wrenching, and emotionally naked stance....Head and Monkey's down-tuned riffage remains inimitable..."
