Korn really hasn't had a good album since “Life is peachy” and well “Issues” doesn’t live up to it either. Though a lot better than their last attempt it still isn’t by any means a good rock album. Ever since they became a regular at MTV their music has gotten softer and thus not good. It’s a shame how MTV has soften these bands. It’s not the bands fault that they are singled out nor is it MTVs fault but it’s hard to be how you were when the fell of all those fans are screaming at the songs you know aren't your best work. So you must produce more of them to keep your new fans happy but losing your old ones. Its called revolution lose the good fans for more of the new ones. So that’s when you become “soft”. Maybe the best way to avoid this fate is just not to let your video on MTV. It worked for Pantera, I haven’t seen a video on MTV yet and I still consider them the best out there. Though many people don’t know them they still have avoided the wrong type of attention. So I will break down this album for you.
Track 1: Dead The first track isn’t that bad of an intro I thought it sounded like some of the older songs. It doesn’t have much in it except for Davis’ bagpipe playing. Not bad of an intro but a song would’ve been better. Score: 2
Track 2:Falling away
from Me This was their first single of this album. It was definitely a good song and they did a good job releasing it first so it would capture some fans. Unfortunately this was one of the better songs on the album. It talks about abuse and Davis has gone through a lot of this. The verses are very short and don’t have much depth to them. Includes some good instrumentals nothing above average though. Score: 4
Track 3: Trash Another decent track where he talks about the little girls he messes with. It has a plot which Korn songs haven’t been containing lately. He considers the little girls trash. Oh well to bad for them. Contains rather mediocre instruments, which we get a lot of here. Score: 3
Track 4: 4 U A somewhat simple short poem with drums because well there isn’t anything else. So there isn’t any noticeable guitars. This song again talks to that person that screwed Davis’ life, which we all know about. Not a good addition Score: 2
Track 5: Beg for Me This one wasn’t at all bad. I rather enjoy the chorus but the verses are too abstract with seemingly no connection with the chorus. It’s not a bad song but it’s too similar to the other songs on this album the military drumming is a nice touch. Score: 3
Track 6: Make Me Bad The second single released and again not a bad song. Korn, in this album any way, has gotten away with crappy verse writing but rather catchy choruses. It’s good but it gets to repetitive. Most of these songs sound the same instrumentally with the choruses being the backbone. Score: 3
Track 7: It’s Gonna Go away Another one of those shot songs. With the drums banging in the background and Davis wailing in the background. After a while he just keeps muttering the same things over and over again. Absolutely no point in this one. Score: 1
Track 8: Wake up It starts off with such promise. Again this song relies on the chorus. It’s getting unacceptable. This song is about peace within the bands. If the verses didn’t sound like a self-help tape than this wouldn’t be a problem. Once again the chorus holds the song. To many times. Score: 3
Track 9: Am I going Crazy This another 12-word song with no guitar help It’s stupid and pointless. Score: 1 Track: 10: Hey Daddy This song has all the instruments playing but Davis sounds like a cat getting run over by a steamroller going half a mile per hour. The only high point is when Davis those that growling vocals. One to skip rock fans. Score: 2
Track: 11 Somebody Someone This one has the feel of the old Korn in it. The only problem is that it’s just not an above average older song. It isn't bad the last verse is the best part of the song. We get to hear Davis do a lower type of his old style. Nice try guys : ). The instrumentals are good in this one. They work well with the vocal towards the end in this track. Score: 4
Track 12: No Way This isn’t a bad song the verses are finally done well. The chorus is done ok. It’s almost a good song. The only problem is it’s just not. It has similarities with the old Korn the last verse is pretty cool but really nothing else is worth mentioning as good. Score: 2
Track 13: Let’s Get This Party Started I like this song it’s better than the most of the songs on this album and the better songs are towards the end. The verses and chorus are well played together. There is little guitar playing but the bass is pumping. Without the guitars though this song is less than good. It’s just average. Score: 3
Track 14: Wish you could be Me Another short song at this point it’s ridiculous this would be an ok song if it would be longer. Now these short songs that last about one minute. They are stupid maybe they should all fuse into one song. Score: 1
Track 15: Counting This song is rather good. The instruments are used to the full ability. The best songs are the last two. The chorus is all right but the song as a whole is very enjoyable to listen to. It’s a good song but it sounds like Korn’s new style but it’s done well. Score: 4
Track 16: Dirty This is the only song that contains Davis’ wail that I loved from the first two albums. The best song from this album but it’s not too good by Korn’s original standards. This song is pretty deep. In my opinion the only deep song in this album that let’s him wail out his emotions. This song is the only one that makes it a decent album. Score: 4
Well that sums up Korn’s come back as short but just making it. They did their best but this new style aunt working. At least they picked up a few of the older styles and stiched it to this album. I would only recommend this to the Korn heads no one else. They have fallen to MTV. I wouldn’t come up with another album if it sounds like this one.
