Faith Hill signed a record deal wih Warner Bros in 1993. Her debut album, Take Me As I Am, reached No 1 on the Billboard Country chart. Faith Hill was an over night success in Nashville, which is very hard to accomplish due to Nashvilles strict rules, but everyone seemed to love Faith and awaited her second album release. It Matters To Me is the follow up to Take Me As I Am. Recent Faith Hill releases show Faith moving from the country/pop sound into country/pop/rock. This album is Faith's last 100% pure country album before she decided to crossover.
1. Someone Elses Dream (wiseman/Bruce) This upbeat song is about a girl who has done everything in her life for someone else and she's finally decided to take her life back and do things just to please herself. Faith's voice isn't at its best in this song, but the song itself is pretty good. (6/10)
2. Let's Go To Vegas (Karen Stanley) This
fun song is about a couple dropping everything to go to Vegas and get married. This is one of my personal favourites off the album, you can tell Faith has fun recording it by the way she presents the song, I would've loved to see Faith perform this live. (8/10)
3. It Matters To Me (Sandes/Ed Hill) A typical Faith Hill ballad. This song is about a woman trying to get through to her lover, 'When I dont know what to say, don't know what to do, don't know if it really even matters to you...baby how can I make you see? It matters to me.' Faith has sung alot of songs about failed relationships over the years, but what makes this song different is the simplicity of the lyrics and the soft emotion Faith brings across. (9/10)
4. Bed Of Roses (Rambeaux/Kyle) I get the feeling this song was just put on the album to make up the numbers. This isn't a stand out song, there is nothing special about it and I find it boring to listen to. Faith's voice is the worst I have heard it here. (3/10)
5. A Man's Home Is His Castle (Ariel Caten) This is Faith's take on domestic violence, she portrays a woman who is being physically abused by her husband, when she tries to leave he threatens her and beats her, she is so scared that she stays, but buys a gun in the end for protection, she knows her husband is going to kill her but she cant leave. The music here is haunting, and with Faith's outstanding emotional vocal performance this song is definately the highlight of the album. (10/10)
6. You Cant Lose Me (Bruce/McHuch) This touching song about the bond between a mother and her daughter was Faiths tribute to her mum. It is an up beat, catchy song, and you can thelp tapping your feet along with the beat. (7/10)
7. I Cant Do That Anymore (Alan Jackson) This song was written by country superstar, and Faiths friend, Alan Jackson. It's about a woman who is married to a successful man, who let her dreams shatter, to wait on her husband hand and foot. 'Now your Mr Successful, and I'n Queen of the treadmill trying to stay the size you think that I should stay...I used to dream about what I would be, but last night I dreamed about the washing machine'. This woman feels trapped behind her husbands success and Faith portrays that fantastically with her voice. (9/10)
8. A Room In My Heart (Sunny Russ) Another of my favourites. This simple love song talks about a womans heart being like a house, with many rooms and open doors, but each time the woman is hurt she closes a door, until only one remains open. This beautiful song is why I became a Faith fan. I like this song because the subject of the song has never been done before. (10/10)
9. You Will Be Mine (Rob Honey) I like this song. It is the first song that Faith displayed attitude in, it remind me of something Shania Twain would do. The thing I love about this song is that Faith is so demanding in it, 'I will have held you!...I will have kissed you!...I will have claimed you!...You will be mine!' it's good to see Faith sing something different than her usual love songs. (10/10)
10. Keep Walkin' On (Stanley/Walker) Faith duets with her goo friend Shelby Lynn here. This gospel song shows the strengths of each womans voices. Faith started off, when she was a little girl, as a gospel singer in a church, so its great to see her retutn to her roots on this song. (7/10)
All in all, this is a good country album. If you are only a fan of Faiths new crossover albums, you may not like this album, it depends how you feel about country music. I personally like this album, its refreshing to hear Faith in a different light.

A very good insight into what the CD is like. An excellent review of each song and providing a personal rating for each song was a great idea too! -+- Hoethir -+-
