...at his funeral). The overwhelming immediacy of her art has made her a pop culture deity; it's personal nature has made her like family to her fans, who worry and fret about her like she is their flesh and blood.
But in a way that reverence rings slightly hollow, because in the end we( her fans, myself included) are not really members of her family but idolizers of her beautiful art. Her music has been so vibrant, visceral and easy to understand that you forget the complicated inner workings and machinations one must have to make art this universally understandable in the first place. And speaking for myself, the deeper I look in to her work, the more I realize that in order to earn the title of "queen of soul" she had to pay a terrible price.

Advantages: Mind blowing musical masterpiece of one man's struggle to find himself Disadvantages: weak 2nd disc

Advantages: Moving, beautiful harmonies and solos. Disadvantages: Not everyone likes jazz
...of harmonies, and his lyricism earned him a big name in the Jazz community; leaving a legacy that survives today. You may not appreciate it to quite the extent that I do, and the album is not ‘Jazzy’ as such, in the usual jumpy, bebop sort of way, but ‘You Must believe in Spring’ is still an unmatchable work of musical poetry....
