Advantages: It's the best Harry Potter score yet - deeper, darker and inspired! Disadvantages: Where have the old themes gone??
...When Warner Bros announced that John Williams was to take on the composition of the score for “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” (“Sorcerer’s Stone” for any Americans reading) I knew they had made the right decision.
I was studying Music at the time and, I will admit without shame, had discussed this at great length with a few other students beforehand. We agreed that it would ‘have’ to be John Williams – the King of Memorable/Cheesy/Inspirational film scores that most have ingrained in the back of their minds. Who could forget the menacing Imperial March as Darth Vader marched into the corridor in “A New Hope”? I think I spent half my childhood running around pretending to be Indiana Jones (accompanied by the famous theme, of course).
I heard the score to the Philosopher’s Stone in fragments on the radio and in...

Advantages: It's corkin Disadvantages: Takes a few listens before it grabs ya by the googlies
...Hurting You
“Please don’t think of me, if you do you gotta block it, I got chills tonight and you can’t be here to stop it. I’m not a parasite, it’s just a lonely night tonight”.
Another acoustic guitar ballad with a lovely warm piano and a bluesy vocal melody. Listen closely for the electric banjo and the steel guitar sitting way low in the mix.
7. Singing for the Lonely

Verging on easy-listening, Singing for the Lonely trips along in an almost American bouncy almost Beach Boys way. Singable bubblegum.
8. Love Calling Earth
“I’m controlled by my fear, and the voices in my head that I can hear”
A strangely Portishead-esque drum loop backs an open arrangement...

Advantages: Great album and music Disadvantages: Nothing at all
...find it quite catchy though and it stays in my head too which is sometimes ok but generally quite annoying! I like the groovy ending to this one, this track has to have a 8/10.
7. Always Come Back To Your Love
I had this song on another CD of mine which made it a personal favourite for me, I think this one starts off really well, very upbeat, catchy and cool but then as time goes on this track starts to bore me, I still think it is a really good tune though and highly recommend it, its just that it is quite a long song. This song is all about forgiveness and going wrong in relationships. (I assume!) This song was released by Sam herself earlier this year and did well in the charts, it is a true RnB hit. I give this one 8/10.
8. Lose You Again
This has to be one of the less better tracks on the CD but is still relatively ok, I don...
