ROY KEANE - THE PLAYING YEARS

Advantages: Nice insight into the controversial aspects to Roy's playing career
Disadvantages: Doesn't cover his time at Celtic, or any of his managerial work

I have to admit that when my beloved Ipswich Town FC appointed Roy Keane as manger a couple of months ago I was a little sceptical. Most of what I knew about Roy came from the press and news coverage, most of it negative, which seemed to follow him around. Determined to give the latest bastion of the Ipswich hot seat a fair crack of the whip I set about finding out a little more about the man behind the hype and headlines. My Brother recommended his autobiography which he?d penned in 2002 with the help of journalist Eamon Dunphy, so I gave it a read. Roy Maurice Keane was born in Cork, Ireland in the summer of 1971, the fourth of five children. He was a mediocre performer at school, preferring to be out kicking a ball around than in a class studying. A smattering of junior Irish clubs came calling, most notably Rockmount. He ...

Take Five with Time Out

Advantages: SImply Brilliant music
Disadvantages: Slightly too short

on this CD. Born in 1920 Brubeck is one of the world's foremost jazz pianists. This recording comes from an early part of his career when he was the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and was released originally in 1959 to much critical acclaim (indeed it was his first platinum selling album). Following this he went on to work mainly for a jazz American radio station, but continued to write many well known pieces. In 2006 he was awarded the BBC's jazz lifetime achievement award. THE TRACKS- what you can expect to find on this album 1) BLUE RONDO A LA TURK- A great introductory track, featuring many archetypal Brubeck sounds, mainly the 9/8 time signature. This is a classic jazz piece, with all four soloists in the band contributing. It is fast paced and loud, exactly what you would expect from a jazz piece. It begins loud and fast, then ...

Review of Time Out [Remastered] - Dave Brubeck Quartet (The)

A Reintroduction to Glen Campbell

Advantages: Classic songs sung beautifully, great instrumentalists and orchestra
Disadvantages: For me there really are none!

Introduction I grew up listening to the music of Glen Campbell as my father was a huge fan and had many of his albums back in the 60s and early 70s. At that time, Campbell was at the peak of his success as a solo singer. Born in Arkansas in 1936, Campbell began his musical career as a session guitarist and singer, appearing on many classic recordings of the era, including "Tequila" by the Champs and "You've Lost That Loving Feelin'" by the Righteous Brothers. He toured with the Beach Boys and also played on "Pet Sounds". My father frequently used to rave to me about how good a guitar player Campbell was when I was younger. In those days I didn't really appreciate his skills but its acknowledged these days that he is one of the greatest guitar players of all time. When he broke out as a solo singer in the 1960s on the fabled ...
