I guess you need to be an Paul Anka's fan if you're looking at this CD, but if you're into Michael's voice, you definitely need to get your hands on masterpieces of his master and tutor. Because most of Michael's outstanding vocal skills are a great achievement and influence of Paul's style warm and soft voice. This CD is no exception to this distinguished style of music which resonates with feelings of kindness and warm hearted nature making most of women feel that there's a real man around :) Because the best place you can listen to this compilation of established jazz & swing standards is at cosy and intimate room with a fireplace, candles and wine, making your woman (if you're a man) feel totally under your influence or (if you're woman) give your man some more thrill to get this feeling of being a man. Because that's what most of swing singers like Michael Buble and Paul Anka have to offer with their bold voice and romantic and intimate stories they tell. Please don't take as an offence, I'm sure you're a real man (or your man's a real man :)) but in my perception that's the essence of this style and manner. Frank Sinatra, being the best illustration, an icon of manhood boldness by perfecting this by his vocal performance and let me tell you that this really resonates with women ;]
Coming back to Michael's CD, this is truly good and proper work made within this style and I guess, you won't be regretting using this CD that way :)
The content of CD cover major jazz standards like opening Feeling Good originally written by Leslie Bricusse and widely covered by other nu-jazz bands, like Kaori, and here, Michael goes down with boldly with an essence of big band. Next goes Gershwin's A Foggy Day (In London Town) reinterpreted in a very happy and joyful manner that reverberates with next You Don't Know Me both which you can dance with your partner, in swinging way. Quando, Quando, Quando is a duet with pop singer Nelly Furatdo, which I didn't really enjoyed much, although instrumentally this is very cosy bossa nova rhythm. Home is originally Buble's composition, one of the rare ones on this CD but in my opinion very good. Beatles cover Can't Buy Me Love written originally by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, nicely moves through the album with fast paced jazz style. Another cover (this is a cover CD I guess) is The More I See You with full band nice tune which makes way to modern and stylish tango rhythm of Save The Last Dance For Me, which i personally find very pleasing. This is staccato of this album because Try A Little Tenderness is a well known ballad, one of the famous performances by Elvis Presley. Michael's interpretation with piano in the background and slow jazz percussion finds its place right after hot rhythms of tango. How Sweet It Issounds like blues, it's just like milder version of SRV with piano instead of guitar, but it still sound consistent with the rest of the tracks, bringing freshness to this jazzy climate. Song For You is definitely a highlight of this CD with Chris Botti, an established trumpeter, playing nice, atmospheric passages through this track. Classic Frank Sinatra's interpretation of this tune needs no introduction, because I've Got You Under My Skin is definitely a classic and a standard. Buble makes his way with elegance and a touch. Stevie Wonder's You And I closes the album with gentle sounds of piano and orchestra.
There are two bonus tracks Dream a Little Dream and Mack the Knife appearing on this CD.
Well, brought together this CD is a very good choice for romantic night with your partner, as I said before, but if you want to listen to it in a car you might find youself driving off road sometimes.
