...Well, that's how me and JJ72 began. I soon was a dedicated follower and managed to clock seeing them live before the album was released - it was one of the ones I was looking forward to so much I actually got up early on a Monday morning (as a Student that's really something), handed over some of my meagre funds (claiming student discount of course) and took home my copy of what to become one of my favourite albums.
This is their debut album, and ... ...out in a barage of feedback and noise. This CD has hardle been out of my CD player since the day I got it. As an album it's brilliant, and as a debut it's wonderful. If JJ72 don't go stellar, there is something seriously wrong with the world ...

Advantages: Fresh, talented new band, break from the boy/girl/plastic bands. Disadvantages: Not everyones cup of tea, not lyrically brilliant.
...of the band: ¬
JJ72 consist of three members, Mark Greaney (lead singer and guitar), Fergal Matthews (drums) and Hilary Woods (bass guitar and back-up vocals).
The band joined in 1998 when they were still at school in Dublin and you'd be forgiven for thinking 'oh another teenage boy/girl band' but you'd be wrong in this case!
The band are a long way from being a 'Westlife' or a 'Boyzone' (even though all look young and cherubic and evidently wouldn't ... ...in Dublin.
In 1999, JJ72 released their first E.P 'October Swimmer' but it failed to make the charts or raise their profile so they took to the road and toured constantly for a year attempting to make a breakthrough. Their second and third singles released 'Snow' and 'Long Way South' again failed miserably and it looked like they might be one of those bands hailed by the press who never make the grade.
Eventually after touring with and overshadowing ...

Ø Introduction.
JJ72 consist of three members – Mark Greaney, Fergal Matthews and Hilary Woods. The band started off when the male members of the group decided to get together and play in a band Mark is the lead singer as well as being the guitarist and songwriter and Fergal is the drummer. The boys were without a bassist and after seeing Hilary perform in a school production of Sweeney Todd they asked her to join and it formed ... ...And so the band JJ72 was formed!
Ø The releases.
In 1999, JJ72 released their first hit “October Swimmer” which gained them respect from many people. After the debut hit, “Snow” was then released. “Long Way South” was then next followed by “Oxygen” which gave JJ72 their first TOTP’s appearance. JJ72 then released their debut album “JJ72”. This fame that began to grow for the band caused the re-release of the tracks “October Swimmer” ...

Advantages: It could have lasted 74 minutes and Hilary IS gorgeous Disadvantages: The vocals, the repetitive nature of the songs, the lyrics, the hype.
...like the group? Having seen JJ72 both live and on TV I had major concerns over this issue, bassist Hilary Woods positively smoulders. So it was with some trepidation that I bought and listened to this eponymous debut. Fortunately the problem never arose. Yes, Hilary Woods is gorgeous. No, the music however is not. Conscience sorted I could get on with the business of reviewing.
To start with- Mark Greaney- you’re not really trying to convince ... ...up to his “sound like a girl” falsetto so much it’s frightening. Someone buy him some lockets. You get the impression he truly believes he sounds both sensitive and impassioned. He doesn’t- he’s more like an indie Chris de Bergh. One song performed in this fashion is acceptable if the song requires it. An album full is simply irritating and taking the piss.
Then there are the tunes. “October Swimmer” starts ...

Advantages: melodic, sweet Disadvantages: not amazingly original
...the same name. JJ72 are a trio from Ireland. 20-year-old Mark Greaney is the guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. It must be said he has a very distinctive and great voice. Hilary Woods is the Basss player, and Fergal Matthews completes the line up on drums. The songs on the album are melodic whilst maintaining a clear anthemic indie/britpop sound. They clearly have a gift for writing great songs and on first impressions they are clear winners. --------------

This was their debut single, and a great to open the album. It starts off very slowly but springs into life with a bounce. It also has a very good chorus and great guitar work. My favourite track on the album. 2. Undercover Angel -
This is another slow and quiet starting track that builds up nicely. It is about how a lover can take over your mind but is certainly not a quiet love song and rocks heavily.
3. Oxygen -
This is another love song ...
