A BIRTHDAY GREETING TO CIAO FROM RICHADA

Advantages: An unusually retrospective birthday greeting.
Disadvantages: Hardly a conventional birthday party.

Please forgive me but, frustratingly, intensive research has failed to enlighten me as to the day that Ciao actually ?launched? - assuming that is the correct term for the arrival of a new consumer site. Alerted to this anniversary by the ?double money? offer in September (oh dear I?ve totally missed the boat on that one!) I have, in spite of being extraordinarily busy, been giving some thought as to just how I should pay a personal tribute to this remarkable institution. As a late starter in most things, contrary to what many may think, I was not around here when Ciao was ?born?, but nonetheless thought the tenth anniversary of this site an occasion to be marked. Review of A birthday greeting

John Thaw 1942 - 2002 : Tribute Collection

Advantages: Three disks, special features
Disadvantages: Disks are packaged the same as originals

I've always been a big fan of John Thaw since seeing an Inspector Morse episode as a young teenager. His amazing ability to bring a character to life and suck you into the role grabbed me from the offset and I followed his TV work ever since. John was born in Manchester on 3rd January 1942 and always wanted to be an actor. He was encouraged by his teachers and at the age of 16 he joined RADA and trained as an actor. John Thaw had parts in many television shows, films and stage shows including: Redcap, The Sweeney, Dead Man's Chest, Thick as thieves and more recently Inspector Morse and Kavanagh Q.C. After his death in 2002 from cancer it was decided to release a tribute to John in the form of a DVD box set. In November of the same year this set was released. James Dean movie box set

Advantages: Good value set for a fan
Disadvantages: Only 2 are excellent films, Giant is not as strong

This box set edition features the only 3 films Jimmy Dean starred in before his untimely death in a car accident. Only 1 of these movies had been released prior to his death, however he was already a legend in the making. East of Eden is based on John Steinbecks classic novel - it is a powerful performance. Rebel is by far the most exciting as a film, and is also filmed in colour. The character is much like Jimmy's own character in real life. Jimmy Dean had a difficult relatonship with his father and had lost his mother. The movie Giant is my least favourite, but worth seeing if you are a fan. Jimmy plays a small part, but has a really funny scene near the end where he is drunk. ...
