Janacék's remarkable brand of human passion and feeling for intense drama aren't confined ... more
to his operas. Both of his string quartets are brimful of restless, fervent emotion--each a ferment of ideas which buzz away relentlessly. Both were inspired by Janacék's feeling for womankind: the first quartet reflecting his reaction to Tolstoy's novel of a wife-murderer, The Kreutzer Sonata; the second filled with the youthful yearning that Janacék returned to in advanced years through his unrequited love for Kamila Stösslova. The celebrated Skampa Quartet isn't lacking when it comes to expressing urgency of emotion. There's some formidable playing here--virtuosic and well balanced, ensemble impeccable. But that urgency becomes almost too relentless. Pace and/or drive aren't the only ingredients for conveying passion. The tender moments, when they come (as at the magical opening of the second movement of "Intimate Letters") tend to lack that very intimacy and inner feeling. The performances aren't helped by the suffocatingly close recording, in an acoustic that is a mite soulless. So, an album to admire and recommend--but not to fall head over heels for--not least when the competition is so fierce in these works.--Andrew Green

Advantages: Good range of feature. Cheap running costs. Disadvantages: Very common cars.
This is the Second of the Corsa C Models we have owned. Our first car was a 2000 model 1.0 Club which served us well during the 2 years we owned it. The car was cheap to run, nice to drive, but was let down by the basic equipment Vauxhall gave us as Standard.
Why Another Corsa.

In January and Feburary I had 2 different new shape Fiesta as hire cars and I did rate the drive and comfort of the cars very highly. They were similar to drive as the excellant all round Focus model. You did feel a lot of bumps in the road but in general it was a very good car. The first Fiesta was a 1300 Finesse which was as slow as they come. You didnot change into second gear until 50 mph....well it felt that way!. The car was way to slow. The next Fiesta was a 1400 LX and was quicker if you revved it hard. The reason that a 1400 ...
The car we reviewed was a Vauxhall Corsa SXI Twinport with a 1.2 litre 16 valve engine. It was standard spec with alloy wheels fitted. Full specifications are available Here Driving experience Driving the Corsa can only be described in a single word: Easy. The clutch is light, there is no way to put the car into the wrong gear, and the power-assisted steering, unlike the engine, is powerful. The combination of all of this means that it is very simple to drive. The instrument panel is simple - Spartan, even - and there is very little to distract you from the reason why you are behind the wheel: driving the car. Performance out of the 1.2 litre Twinport was adequate - You will never be the first one away from stop-lights, and acceleration is not great at higher speeds, but it does offer enough power to take you where you need to go. ...
Advantages: space, steering, brakes Disadvantages: boot and not as cool to look at as new fiesta
My girlfriend and me were given an 09 plate Corsa, when she wrote of her Ford KA (click my name for a review of KA). It was Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 SXi in Silver, it had optional extras like bigger alloys wheels and tinted windows, but it also had a built-in Dashboard screen which I don?t know if is an optional extra or a modification, anyway it was at Pioneer screen which had Sat-Nav, radio controls, phone sync, CD player and if it is an option I would most certainly recommend it.
The Corsa was very pleasant to drive, the steering is obviously PAS but it was extremely light, the brakes were excellent, the gearbox was surprisingly pleasant, and the driving position was fantastic. For a Super-Mini it really does feel like a big car, the driving position is slightly elevated and the dashboard is really quite large for a car of this size ...
