Let me first start by saying that this album was my introduction to converge, i had never heard of them before, and I'm not a particularly huge hardcore fan, but this album is easily the most raw and brutal album that is in my possession. The album has a running time of about 40 minutes, 30 minus the title track, and although this might put you off for fear of a lack of substance, if you are looking for something original fresh, incredibly emotional and aggressive you have come to the right place. Jane Doe honestly makes me want to rip someone apart sometimes, tracks like concubine, and home wrecker are crushing, focused high tempo pieces of musical genius, whilst distance and meaning builds on this with a variety of tempo changes as well as other minor but noticeable touches such as use of guitar feedback in the chorus, and clean vocals which are rare on this album. Other tracks such as broken vow and phoenix in flight show the diverse musical ability of converge instrumentally, whilst retaining the core consistent sound that the album establishes from track one Although some will not like the vocal style, as the lyrics are often hard to identify, I find this poetic. Converge take the idea of words not being enough to express strong feeling by putting emphasis on the vocal aggression, so much so that its just a blur of genuine anger, this is not to say that the lyrics are poor, they are in fact very fresh. Finally this vocal style also encourages the listener to delve deeper into the ideas and inspirations of converge by actually reading the lyrics. This album has a few weak tracks and the production could be better, however apart from that it is fantastic. If you want something thats inspiring, true to itself, and exists outside of musical trends this is the band , and the landmark album for you.

...godzilla movies.
The last track, Jane Doe is a slower track with quite melodic guitar riffs and Jacobs screaming over the top and some melodic screaming like the music from ghost in the shell and sounds almost foreign too.
Either way this album is an overall example of the unique music Converge has to offer, and is a Converge must have. This album should not be judged by the 1st track and really should be the one to buy for people who've never ...

Advantages: Introduces a unique style from the other albums Disadvantages: First time buyers may want to listen before purchase due to unique style
This is one of Converge's older albums. The tracks hold the unique Converge style through and through, but uses some more cat style singing then the others but still plenty of the classic Jacob Bannon vocals. This album also has a unique song unlike most of Converge's music-Ten Cents, a calmer track with melodic undistorted guitars, and with Jacob singing throughout normally.
The album also includes When Forever Comes Crashing itself, an overall example of what the style of this album is like and one of my personal favourite Converge songs.
This albums lyrics are not as heartfelt as JaneDoe or poetic as You Fail me, but the lyrics arent really that important anyway, but if you get a chance to read them they are amazing and if i had to choose a favourite poet, Jacob Bannon would be it. ...
Converge includes: Jacob Bannon (vocals); Kurt Ballou (guitar, Theremin, background vocals); Aaron Dalbec (guitar); Nate Newton (bass, Theremin, background vocals); Ben Koller (drums). Additional personnel includes: Kevin Baker, Secret C, Tre McCarthy (background vocals).
