Advantages: not many Disadvantages: it's too like the shrew
..."10 Things I Hate About You" is "The Taming Of The Shrew" rejigged for teens. The script (Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith) owes less to Will the Quill than to been-there cynicism. These kids have no illusions. Life is a role play, in which suckers are sucked and tough chicks don't work with safety nets.
At the beginning, wit ricochets off the walls. As Kat softens and Patrick puts on a tux, the movie loses its spark. You begin to notice the songs on the soundtrack -- always a bad sign. The actors are unknown, with the exception of Miller, who is always an asset to any comedy. As an ensemble piece, it is fresh and funny. As for Shakespeare, he suffers the same fate Jane Austen did in "Clueless"; but you don't have to know "The Shrew" to enjoy "10 Things"....

Advantages: Famous and beautiful title track, relaxing to listen to. Disadvantages: A bit too samey for me.
...The haunting title track to Jane Campions' essay on love and repression is the very soul of the heroine played by Holly Hunter. This was intentional as her character uses her piano to communicate her mood in much of the film, which for me is the films best idea. It is lyrical and moving, and if you've seen the film listening to it will conjure up the emotional spirit of the movie. Nyman uses this main theme throughout the different stages of the film, using variants on the tune and different tempos, adding simple strings where necessary. It is much more accessible than his hugely original work for Peter Greenaway but I found it could have done with more variety of themes other than variants on the title track. Still, very calming to listen to and suits the film well....

...This CD is the soundtrack which accompanies the film of the same title.
The CD contains 11 great tracks by some great artists. The tracks and artists are:-
1 Wild Women do - Natalie Cole
2 Fame 90 - David Bowie
3 King of Wishful Thinking - Go West
4 Tangled - Jane Wiedlin
5 Must have been love - Roxette
6 Life in Detail - Robert Palmer
7 No Explanation - Peter Cetera
8 Real Wild Child (wild one) - Christopher Otcasek
9 Fallen - Lauren Wood
10 Oh Pretty Woman - Roy Orbison
11 Show me your soul - Red Hot Chili Peppers
When reading the play list if like me you do not recognise the name or artist of some of the songs once you hear them they are recognisable and for me bought back some great memories from the film.
The CD cover lists the artists included on the CD and Richard Gere and Julia Roberts standing back to back next to the CD...
