Advantages: 29 good songs Disadvantages: No Kokomo
This is the first review of The Beach Boys - Greates Hits, so I have a chance to set the standard. As a massive fan of the Beach Boys this opinion is very bias, but what the heck all opinions are.
Containing 29 songs in all this album is full of the boys top songs. All but Kokomo. Some of the best tracks:

I think I first heard this CD when I borrowed it from my local library. The only tune I'd heard was Take 5 (actually a Paul Desmond composition) Listening to the CD was something of a revelation for me. It was as though I had finally discovered the kind of jazz music I'd been looking for for ages. Not overly technical in a "look how good I am with my 10 minute self congratulatory solo" kind of way, which I tire of very quickly. Brubeck & Co are very ... ...technically good. I like clever jazz and clever melodies, and that's what this is.
This cd has a nice little collection of songs from various albums, including a few from their album 'Time Out' which uses untypical time signatures like 3/4 and 5/8 (take 5) and 7/8 etc. It also has the wonderful track called "I'm in a dancing mood" which I haven't seen elsewhere, and I don't think Brubeck wrote it either - It is however, just amazing and so full ...

...was fairly average for a greatest hits CD. That brings me onto next point- it’s a Greatest Hits CD from Chuck Mangione, which was brought out a few years back. It is a collection of all the highlights from Chuck’s first decade of popularity, from 1971 to 1981. I believe it is the greatest hits CD that would make and indeed does make it popular with children and adults. For children interested in jazz and excellent brass playing, this is ideal. For ... ...hold interest, and then the greatest hits compilation would be even better. CD and CD insert: to put it simply-it’s simple, but effective!! It looks stylish, and seems to suit the format of Chuck’s greatest hits. Like a celebratory CD of Chucks career. It also doesn't look too modern or wacky, which is good coz Chuck's been around for a while!

Not usually one to buy 'greatest hits' or compilation albums I caved in an bought 'the great Nina Simone', showing a perfect skinned 60s girl on the front sleeve. With her dark, heavily made-up, fake-eyelashed eyes one might expect cover versions of 60's pop songs about broken hearts and popsicles. But anyone who knows anything about Nina Simone would know to expect great blues and a fantastic vocalist. The Complete Robert Johnson comes across like a standards song book, the contents of which has given birth to numerous cover versions from acclaimed and esteemed bluesmen and rockers from across the globe spanning six decades. There is however, one glaring disappointment with this set and that is with the sequencing. This is the most comprehensive collection of Johnson's material and as such there are alternate takes included. ... ...by side with their original counterparts which makes the whole very hard to listen to as each track is repeated, albeit a variant of the original. It still baffles me as to why the alternates were not on a separate disc from the originals. Even for me, a hardened fan of the genre, it makes for difficult listening if you using an old fashioned CD player. This is a wonderful and comprehensive archive but unfortunately does not work as a listening experience ...
