Kind Of Blue - Miles Davis
Advantages: Virtuoso trumpet at its best Disadvantages: Only the re-released version has the sound quality it deserves
...record shop. I spotted "A Kind Blue" and instantly withdrew my wallet and the CD was mine. As readers you will probably like to know about the music is like! Well simply it is divine, some find Miles Davis's music too intense and muddled, but it takes either an uninterested listener to ignore this or a fascinated listener to understand and appreciate it, I hope that the buyer will lean towards the latter of these two opposites. ...

Funk Off
Advantages: Reinvigorated Davis, awesomely funky, with a superb band. Disadvantages: You're kidding right?
...of the seventies.
'A Tribute to Jack Johnson' however is Davis at one with his material, interviews reveal this to be a project Davis dug, really dug. A longtime fan of boxing, and constant visitor to the ring to keep fit (relatively speaking for a cocaine addict with shot hips), in Jack Johnson Davis spotted a kindred spirit. The album was the soundtrack to a documentary about the legendary heavyweight. Johnson was THE great black hope in the early ... ...his opponents, and lived life in the fastest of the fast lanes. Cars, women, fine clothes, newspaper headlines, and a nation that baulked as a negro stood at the pinnacle of his profession. There was an awful lot for Miles to identify with.
The energy on this record is palpable. A tangible electricity flows through the 2 tracks that make up the standard edition release. Davis was never just Davis though, in the early days of be-bop he was in the ...

Take Five with Time Out
Advantages: SImply Brilliant music Disadvantages: Slightly too short
...changing time. His famous 9/8 time signatures can be seen in a number of tracks featured on this CD. Born in 1920 Brubeck is one of the world's foremost jazz pianists. This recording comes from an early part of his career when he was the Dave Brubeck Quartet, and was released originally in 1959 to much critical acclaim (indeed it was his first platinum selling album). Following this he went on to work mainly for a jazz American radio station, but ... ...Brubeck sounds, mainly the 9/8 time signature. This is a classic jazz piece, with all four soloists in the band contributing. It is fast paced and loud, exactly what you would expect from a jazz piece. It begins loud and fast, then the middle section is quiet and downbeat, followed by a final frantic section with Brubeck at the helm. Though rather long at 6 minutes 44 seconds I would class this is an almost perfect piece of jazz music. By far and ...

Aspiration
Advantages: The beginning of the jazz/rock-fusion era Disadvantages: I don't think so
Before I begin with the review, let me make a small introduction to what the term fusion refers to. Fusion nowadays refers to bands, corresponding to a highly technical electric jazz idiom, with extreme improvisation, hyper-complex rhythmic patterns and unisono phrases. Moreover, is considered by many people, justified in a way I believe, that is a form of music designed for musicians to musicians and nothing more. However, if we look at the way ... ...that things were a little bit different than the above characterization explicitly implied. What was the firing point for that music to develop? The evolving interest, of young talented jazz musicians, for the new style emerging at the time, namely rock. Normally, the birth of fusion is considered to be Miles Davis' album "Bitches Brew". In my opinion, the birth of fusion is rather the album you are curently reading it's review, with the Miles Davis ...

This recording could be memorable as well as the movies!
Advantages: The music perfectly portrays the atmospheres of movies Disadvantages: No song with lyrics/ singer featured
As written in the foreword written by Oscar winning director, Sydney Pollack, to this beautiful recording, "what needs to said in a film, and can’t be said with words or pictures, is finally said with music," the pianist Dave Grusin presents a "description" of all of that in a film. This well-seasoned musician wrote compositions for films and compiled in this album, music in which he signed to compose (Tootsie, On Golden Pond, The Champ—among others). ... ...“It Might Be You”, Grusin plays a beautiful piano solo performance, backgrounded by full orchestra that captivate as well. In my opinion, this song perfectly reflects the romantic atmosphere and love in films. And people who have not watched the films (Tootsie, On Golden Pond) may also be sentient on such atmosphere. Other song, “New Hampshire Hornpipe”, sounds as if describing a spirit of enthusiasm for the big events that will be faced by the main ...
