Depeche Mode are by no means dinosaurs of synth-infused rock. While they could have easily ended up on the retro tour conveyor belt, as many of their early-80s contemporaries have, they have always managed to remain relevant. Directed by long-time artistic collaborator Anton Corbijn the concert footage concisely captures the atmosphere of the show which was seen by over 1.5 millions fans in 2001. Though there is an obsessive focus on the half-naked Gahan and the "fallen-angel" Gore throughout, at various points the camera withdraws to expose a huge screen at the back of the stage. Combined with the angry stage lighting, the projection films (which include footage of a goldfish swimming in a tank for "In Your Room") provide an added epic feel. Predominantly made up of songs from Exciter, the track-listing also includes old favourites such as "Enjoy the Silence" and "Personal Jesus". On the DVD: One Night in Paris' visual and audio material is of an excellent quality, which further enriches the strong live performances. The bonus material on the second disc (particularly the interviews with the band and tour crew) neatly complements the material on the first disc. However, the 50-minute commentary (which is more like a short-course on the practicalities of photography) by Corbijn is dull and over-indulgent. Watched independently of the concert footage, the stage projections also make lacklustre viewing. If the bonus material had been selected more sparingly all of the items could have been combined on one disc making a more succinct package. --John Galilee

...Phil collins, former member of Genisis and former solo artist, formed what came to be known as the phil collins big band.
The Cd, titled a hot night in Paris, portrays the phil collins big band as an up beat big band.
Recorded in Paris in 1999, the 20 piece big band, made up of fine musicians from around the globe, recorded this fantastic album.
The tracks include:
1. Sussudio
2. That's All
3. Invisible Touch
4. Hold On My Heart
5. Chips & Salsa
6. I Don't Care Anymore
7. Milestones
8. Against All Odds
9. Pick Up The Pieces
10. Los Endos Suite
You dont have to be a jazz fanatic to enjoy this CD as it appeals to everyone.
The drumming, laid down by Phil Collins, is tight and precise, producing an overall fantastic sound.
The CD is quite hard to get hold of but it is worth getting if you can find it.
A great CD and passion for Jazz.

Advantages: Brilliant, brilliant mix by a brilliant, brilliant DJ Disadvantages: not easy to get your hands on AND it's expensive
...In the heart of Parisstands Hotel Costes - a super, fashionable designer hotel in eclectic French Empire brothel style. Only France's who's who hang out at this ultra-cool joint. And when you have ultra-cool people hanging out in an ultra-cool joint, you'll need an ultra-cool music guru, and he is Stéphane Pompougnac.
Music lovers all over the world have identified Hotel Costes to its famous series of compilations "mixed by Stéphane Pompougnac". Forget about Ministry of Music or Budabar. His music is an eclectic mix of lounge music from different cultures around the globe. A dash of new jazz, a pinch of house, a dab of the classics, and a whole of groove, and you get Hotel Costes Etage 3.
Pompougnac's Hotel Costes consists of seven volumes but Etage 3 seems to be the brilliant one. Each track in the CD has the ability to mark...

Advantages: Pop(ish), upbeat and (mildly) entertaining Disadvantages: Weak lyrics, uninspiring tunes, nothing new or unique
..., however, attempt to perform all of these styles with rather dismal effect.
The first single from the album - Stars Are Blind - might not have been a chart runaway, but it's not actually that bad if you view it as simply Girly Pop. Paris's voice suits this particular style and the track suits her breathy, girly tones. If the rest of the album were like this, it would be quite good, in a 1980's Debbie Gibson kind of way.
Sadly, it isn't.
Several tracks on the album are egotistical (ala Robbie Williams but without the panache) and others are attempts at dance or pop-rap and they simply don't work well enough to make Paris Hilton stand out amongst the talent that dominates the charts. Her hoarse rendition of "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" is more coarse than seductive and makes a travesty of what is rather a good track.
There are elements...
