St. Michael Roman-Catholic Cathedral

Advantages: Impressive, old, romantic Medieval Age building
Disadvantages: None

St. Michael Roman-Catholic Cathedral is the most impressive building with the Mathias Rex ( King Mathias) statuary composition in the centre of Cluj-Napoca. It`s quite a romantic environment, with a little park in front of the statues , being the perfect dating place for the everybody in the city. Good to know: 1. It is built in gothic style 2. It is the second largest church (after the Black Church of Brasov) in Transylvania, Romania. 3.The nave is 50 meters long and 24 meters wide, the apse is 20×10 m. The tower`s height is 76 meter (80 meter including the cross) being the highest in the whole Transylvania. 4.Construction was completed between 1442-1447 Great place to visit! Take the plane and fly over! ...

A SUITABLE RESTING PLACE FOR St ALBAN

Advantages: Antiquity, Architecture, Free Entry, Guides, History.
Disadvantages: None Found

tonnes of the very hard Roman bricks from the ruined city with the intention of building a church worthy of St Albans stature. Before any brick construction had started on the site, the Normans had invaded, and in order to stamp their authority and superiority on the Saxon abbots they planned and started to erect, in 1077, a large Norman church. The design was that of the first Norman abbot, Paul of Caen, the builder his master mason Robert. St Alban was very well known in France, many churches there had already been dedicated to him. With this being the site of his martyrdom, Paul of Caen had the full backing of the Archbishop of Canterbury, using a largely Saxon workforce, he built his abbey church - at the time of its dedication in 1115 it was, unsurprisingly, the largest church in England. A CATHEDRAL OF UNUSUAL PROPORTIONS My ...

Sixties British Jazz that really shines...

Advantages: Good quality British jazz, played with energy, style & originality
Disadvantages: None I can find, apart from the CD's short length.

I can hear y'all cry "ohhh, he's reviewing another Trunk release, Does he work for them or something?". Nah. It's just that some of their releases are to be had for fairly low prices at the moment, a 10th Anniversary offer or something, from some retailers. Anyway, this is a very short, purely instrumental album (approx 23 minutes in length) recorded in 1964. a year before British jazz musician Michael Garrick's 'official' first album, The October Woman, came out. At the time, only 99 copies were made "for tax reasons" ( I believe Joe Meek did the same to one of his own albums, around that time, for the same reason). Whatever, it soon became as rare as hen's teeth, pristine copies eventually selling for hundreds of pound or more over the years. In the fullness of time, an unplayed copy fell into the hands of Jonny Trunk, who did a deal ...
