This 1974 Norman Jewison film may have been a critical misstep, but some fans actually ... more
preferred it to Broadway's rock spectacle. The thing is, Jesus Christ Superstar was first introduced as a two-disc rock opera, not unlike the Who's Tommy, as it even scored several Top 40 hits. While no set matches the original, it's still hard to go wrong with the music, no matter what the source. This also includes the pretty "Could We Start Again, Please," composed for the stage version, and sung here by the original LP's Mary Magdalene, Yvonne Elliman. Ted Neely (Jesus) and Carl Anderson (Judas), meanwhile, have spent two decades on the road, recreating their roles night after night, although they have to now be at least two decades older than Jesus was at the Crucifixion. --Bill Holdship

The argument of this sounstrack is passion and resuction of our lord JesusChrist as Rock Opera that tells us in the Gospel, specially the passion, in this Opera have starrings Jesuschrist and Judas the JesusChrist's treasonous, talking with JesusChrist's enemies, Mary of Magdala who died JesusChrist's died, .
This is an adaptation of the gospel written the lyrics by Tim Rice and the music Andrew Lloyd, this is a story telling as Judas part of the story.
It was releasing at the begging of the seventies in 1975 this story went to be a movie and then it has an Spanish version with Camilo Sesto as JesusChrist and Angela Carrasco
---------------
This story had a controverse with the Catholic religion specially but after The Catholics accepted, now this Rock Opera is for moral reflexion our sins etc on Good Fridays ...
Advantages: Cool, gritty and fun. Disadvantages: You'll be singing the tunes for weeks afterwards!
Gritty isn't a word I'd normally associate with a musical, but it certainly fits JesusChristSuperstar.
I'd seen it twice in the theatre before I bought the video and love it!
The theatre version and the video both hold their own appeal. The video version isn't a butchered version of the theatre show. Instead, its a clever interpretation of it.
The music is great. Its not cheesy or overly religious. The performances are amazing. "Gethsemane" amazes me every time.
I do feel that they guy who plays Jesus in the video (Glenn Carter) overacts a bit at times, but it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the video in a major way.
Andrew Lloyd-Webber has cleverly shown the last days of Jesus through an unusual perspective. The human side of Jesus is played upon. We see his fear, his anger and his contentment. Judas is also ...
Advantages: Superb Musical, Great Story and great songs! Disadvantages: Not completely according to religion! But it has the same jist to it!
This is a great musical, and even though the Religion behind it isnt completely accurate, it still succesfully tells the story of Jesus's crucifixion. Having seen the musical in the theatre and on the movie, i can tell you that the songs only seem to get better on the DVD. The music is gripping, the storyline is gripping. Its a great way to teach younger people about religion and about the life of Jesus. The film has many great appearences from people such as "The King" otherwise known as elvis, and the music although sounding at times, quite evil, is extremely good. This is another one of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webers masterpieces a must see for all people out there! For a real treat though it should be seen in a theatre ...
