Advantages: Mellow music, great for the end of a hard days work. Good Debut.
Disadvantages: You must like Indie Rock/Pop.

...I like this. I spent my summer listening to Jack Johnson, so you can probably guess where my musical inclinations lie. If Jack was for the Summer, this guy is for the Winter. It is a very intimate guitar album. I drew comparisons with the quieter moments of Jeff Buckley's Grace, based purely on the sound, a sort of hypnotic guitar massage with enough beats to keep you awake. There is one superb track called Heartbeats, it's one of those tracks which is both mellow and energetic(listen, you'll see what I mean!) Throughout the album you are certainly sure of Jose Gonazalez's South American roots, the spanish guitar, really all the evidence you need. Always difficult to recommend music, as there is no accounting for taste, but if you like a spanish guitar and guy with soft vocals then this may well be your kinda thing. Although I... Read review

Iron Maiden or Shakira?

Advantages: A bit of Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoast
Disadvantages: Better than Bryan Adams

...Brazilian power metal may not be everyone’s cup of tea and hell, it’s certainly not mine… ordinarily. But 48 hours of non-stop looping have proved that, with careful weaning, it’s possible to leave your guilty past of gentler genres behind, for a day or two at least. I managed to develop a real soft spot for Angra, albeit deep down in my soft rock soul. Despite comparisons to Iron Maiden, I caught the odd whiff of, among other things, Queen, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and some random Spanish guitarist probably named José. And after perhaps one too many listens I even began to fancy I could hear traces of Shakira in the brilliant and now hopelessly-stuck-in-my-head So Near So Far. Other highlights include the pounding Salvation: Suicide, and understated finale Abandoned, while Edu Falaschi’s impressive vocals... Read review

Tunes for life 4 - One step higher

Advantages: Some astoundingly moving tracks, unbeatable for its chill value
Disadvantages: A little inaccessible at times

...’s face it, they’re designed that way. If you go to a club you can’t hit fast forward if you don’t like what’s on; and generally the quality of mix CDs are consistently good if produced by a reputable DJ. The other sort however are much more varying in content and genre and can range from anything as far off as northern soul and blues to Now x and Speed Garage Anthems. Although the producers might argue otherwise – these CDs just aren’t designed to be listened to from start to finish, and I’m sorry pop pickers, but I’ve not found a modern age CD of this type that I can go through without being rudely interrupted from what I am doing by having to fast forward a totally awful track.
