Advantages: occasionally funny, well performed musically with great stage effects
Disadvantages: much of the new material isnt funny, frequently recycles old material

of a popular theme tune, a drum and bass track themed around George Bush, and a Kraftwerk-esque song about trouser presses all appear, coming across as simplified, less funny versions of older jokes. Much of the new material is very weak, such as Bill engaging in conversation with different aspects of his personality on the giant screens behind him and an "ages of Bill" section which is essentially just images of Bill in a series of silly costumes. In place of his usual brilliant material we get 'sing along with Bill' sections such as 'Hey! Asda! I aint gonna be your bitch', set along to some admittedly impressive stage effects. The belly laughs which normally accompany Bills shows are conspicuous by their absence however- I only laughed once or twice throughout the whole dvd. Review of Bill Bailey - Tinselworm (DVD)

Not the old bill

Advantages: Brilliant drama!
Disadvantages: none that I can think of.

This would seem rather boring to people that have never watched it so I must add that this isn't all that happens as with the above mention special episodes, the programme does concentrate on the characters of the police men and women. There have been lots of specials in the last 3 years, obviously to try to improve on ratings, for me this has just been a bonus as I am an avid viewer of the bill anyway. The Bill to me is a brilliant drama but I count it as a soap, mainly because I love soaps. You also get to hear of the up coming story lines in the soap magazines. As I mentioned at the beginning of the review, the producers got rid of a lot of characters last year, but I didn't say that they have brought in a lot of very interesting characters to replace them and of course you still have the old favourites like Reg, Dave, Tony and Polly ...

Review of The Bill

Never been to the States but Bill makes me feel like I have

Advantages: Bill's style of writing even makes "boring" subjects interesting
Disadvantages: none

close to tears as a rule, but I was a week away from going to uni for the first time myself when I bought this and the chapter entitled "On Losing A Son" which detailed Bill's view of that major change from a parent's perspective was so touching that I just couldn't read it at that particular time in my own life. Bill has struck a perfect balance - nostalgia and fondness for his land of birth are perfectly clear, but he is also practical and not afraid to ridicule what he finds outrageous. The War On Drugs chapter is an excellent look at America's fear of illicit substances and he isn't holding back when he points out the stupid pointlessness of some senator's desire to pass the death penalty sentence on any individual caught with what Bill describes as "the botanical equivalent of two bottles of vodka".
