...Introduction...
Following on from my recent review of Keyshia Cole's debut album "The way it is" I thought that it would be a good idea to review her second album "Just Like You" This album was released in 2007 and has a number of collaborations and appearances from some of the biggest names in Hip Hop and R&B. Some of these include the likes of Alicia Keys, Andre 3000 and Missy Elliot along with top producers Scott Storch and Rodney Jerkins.
...Just Like You...
1. Let It Go - Keyshia Cole, Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim
This is a great way to open the album, A nice hip hop slow jam with an old school feel. This is a laid back track which has some nice sounds in the background. This has a very funky feel and is a fine opening.
2. Didn't I Tell You - Keyshia Cole, Too Short
This starts with an epic backing and then develops with a great bassline. This really works well and is one of the best hip hop
tracks she has done. This track shows how well the album was recorded.
3. Fallin' Out
This starts off with a nice classical part and then the piano and drum beat comes in with Keyshia's voice. Her voice sounds very assured and emotive. This is one of the best ballads on the album and is about a relationship breaking up when it was so strong.
4. Give Me More
This is an uptempo track with a hip hop feel. The melody moves through brilliantly and this is a very catchy track with a great feel. One of the better uptempo tracks on the album and showing she can do more than just the great ballads.
5. I Remember
This is a ballad with a great relaxed feel. the guitar and piano blends so well and they are soon joined by a bumping beat. This is a very beautiful track with Keyshia remembering how she felt after a break up. Thinking about all the things you say that you don't really mean.
6. Shoulda Let You Go - Amina, Keyshia Cole
This features newcomer Amina and is a funky hip hop track with a great authority. The piano and drum beat works well together and this is a very fine hip hop joint.
7. Heaven Sent
This track opens with a nice guitar melody and then some military style drums come in. The song then develops into a great ballad which again shows Keyshia's great vocal ability.
8. Same Thing (Interlude)
This is a nice interlude into the next section of the album. It is 1.35 which is a little longer than most interludes but it works well enough as an interlude.
9. Got to Get My Heart Back
This mid-tempo track has a great feel and Keyshia's voice shines. The music has a great beat and along with the backing strings and piano provides a great platform for her voice.
10. Was It Worth It?
This is a lovely ballad questioning your partner whether it was worth cheating with someone. An emotive subject done well with a hip hop ballad. The music adds a great dimension to this track.
11. Just Like You
This is a great ballad with some nice opening piano tones and then a shuffling sample in the background. This is a very nice track with a great beat alongside the piano melody. This track works really well indeed.
12. Losing You - Keyshia Cole, Anthony Hamilton
This is a great old school ballad featuring the distinctive voice of Anthony Hamilton, The beat of the drum is combined with the piano melody to make a nice backing for this track.
13. Last Night - Keyshia Cole, , Diddy
This is a funky hip hop track featuring Sean Coombs, the backing beat is a shuffling thumping beat that works well. Not quite the best on the album but still a good track.
14. Work It Out
This slow jam has a nice melody and Keyshia's voice sounds brilliant and so emotive. A wonderful ballad with a great conversational style to it. One of the best she has done in the two albums so far. Quite Stunning
15. Let It Go [Remix] - Keyshia Cole, Missy Elliott, T.I., Young Dro
This is a remix of track two and is just as good. T.I adds a great feel to the track. . A very good track which has enough different about it from the original. Just about worthy of a remix.
...Overalll...
This is a very good album that shows development from her debut album. She is a very talented singer and I expect her to be releasing many more albums in the future and further showing her superiority over the new breed of female R&B singer.
