Advantages: The best of British rock Disadvantages: Maybe a little cliched
Back in the 1980?s, a wonderful band called Terraplane decided to call it a day, after producing a couple of brilliant albums which no-one bought. Fortunately for rock lovers, three of the band, vocalist Danny Bowes, guitarist and main songwriter Luke Morley and drummer ?Arry ?H? James enjoyed making music and each other?s company far too much to let it end there. So they stayed together, started another band, and called themselves Thunder.
In August 1989, the newly formed band signed to EMI. Not long afterwards, a bassist (Mark Luckhurst) and a guitarist/keyboard player (Ben Matthews) were added, and the recording of one of British rock music?s greatest ever albums started. In February 1990, Thunder burst onto the scene with their first single ?Dirty Love?, which was followed in late April 1990 by their debut album, ?Backstreet ...
Advantages: decent world, good technology, lots of action Disadvantages: Boring: too much technology, too many battles, not enough social background
and information virus and you have an author that clearly knows his stuff and confidently uses the whole techno-science-fiction toolkit.
All of this is combined quite well into a consistent and believable world which to me strongly resembles Banks's Culture; though Polity is of somehow more obviously harsh and warlike, masculine character. There is an acknowledgement of Asher's debt to Banks though it only mentions drones; but the book also owes a lot to the cyberpunk tradition - in fact the cover of Polity Agent reminded me instantly of the UK cover of Neuromancer.
It's all there, and by all accounts Polity Agent should be, if not exactly inspiring, then at least fun. However, this novel fails on the main criterion of genre fiction. It is rather boring, despite all those plot strands and characters and fireworks of undoubted technical ...
Advantages: Great album for thunder fans Disadvantages: last album from a great band.
This is the 2008 album by the British rock group Thunder, it is their 9th studio album. They have had complilation albums such as the live album and the ballads one. Their website is www.thunderonline.com. Here you can listen to samples of this album and some of their others from their long history dating back to the 1980's.
Unfortuantly it has been revealed that it will be their last album recorded together. So this is the year to see them live if you have never seen them play. Samples can also be heard of each track on amazon.co.uk website too. So listen before you buy if you arent familiar with their work.
The band will still perform on an individual basis or with the other groups they belong to.
