Advantages: Kids MIGHT like it Disadvantages: Unfunny , cheesy , Poor Acting , Waste Of Money
Two weeks ago I planned to go to the cinema on the following Wednesday to see the new film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. I was quite looking forward to the event. However I was disappointed when I read the showing times of the film , on the Cineworld website the day before. It stated that the last showing of the film was 4:40 although I was working until 5pm and it takes at least an hours drive to get to my local cineworld. Because I was looking forward to going to the cinema so much to see that film , I didn't want to cancel the event , and therefore decided to go and see the Love Guru instead , although I wasn't sure what to expect.
The Love Guru is about Pikita. Pikita is an American who grew up in India. He is now a guru. His challenge throughout the film is to get a famous American hockey player back with his wife ...
Advantages: Er....er......um......er.......nope Disadvantages: The film
Well, this was my second disappointment of the day, I'm afraid. The other day, I watched Eastern Promises, and loved it. Then came The Day The Earth Stood Still, and I thought it was pants. So, after some violent crime drama and a bit of crappy sci-fi, I thought i'd try some light-hearted comedy.
However, this is nothing more than a poor man's attempt at some of the frat pack films, such as Pineapple Express, Superbad, 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, etc. It doesn't even have the adult lewd humour that makes those films appeal to beer swilling, belching men. A Mike Myers film, The Love Guru takes the humour from Austin Powers and attempts to make a funny romcom with a bit of stupidity. It fails. It doesn't have charm and pinache of AP, nor does it have the screwy comedy that made it original.
In fact, the plot is even a bit rubbish ...
Advantages: Quite a unique storyline, good acting Disadvantages: Might seem a bit "preachy"
Guru (a Hindi language film) was released in January 2007 and is a Mani Ratnam film (produced and directed by him). It stars Abhishek Bachchan as Gurukanth ?Guru? Desai, with Aishwarya Rai playing his wife Sujata, Mithun Chakraborty as Manikdas ?Nanaji? Gupta, Madhavan as Shyam Saxena and Vidya Balan as Meenakshi ?Meenu? Gupta-Saxena.
PLOT SUMMARY
Guru leaves his village and his family to go work in Turkey as he feels stifled by his father?s lack of ambition. He does well out in Turkey for a few years but when he is offered promotion he refuses it, wanting not to work for ?foreigners? but to make it big on his own in his own country. He returns home to India and his village only to have his school-teacher father sneer at his ambitions. He meets up with his old school friend who has some money saved up for his sister Sujata ...

Personnel: Ax Genrich (vocals, guitar); Uli Trepte (vocals, bass instrument); Mani Neumeier (vocals, drums). Eschewing the absurdist sound collage aesthetic of Faust and the instrumental virtuosity of Can for mind-melting sheets of feedback-laden sound and unfettered improvisation, Guru Guru served as something of a Krautrock analog to England's Hawkwind, another gritty psychedelic act devoted to the simple pleasures of distortion, drugs, and more distortion. Guru Guru's third full-length, 1972's KANGURU, features four ecstatic forays into long-form improvisation and is often held up alongside 1971's UFO as the outfit's best work.
