Your first impression of this album will leave you wondering wether radiohead are endanger of disapearing up thier own arses, and losing their abilty to connect with us mere mortals, but given time (and time is what is needed as this album demands your full attention) you can begin to fully appreciate the subtleties within this epic album.
Here are a few of the albums high points;
Track 1- "everything in its right place": warms you like the sun on you back after emerging from a cloud and yet chilling in its clinical application.
Track 2- "kid A": begs you skip this track then cheekerly throws in the most delightful drum track towards the end
Track 3- "The national athem": probably the albums most accessable track and the one you will love most first, its dirty baseline will have you bum twitching around the house from the outset, then goes on to spiral into miles davis madness by the end.
Track 6-"optimistic": the guitars arrive like an unwanted dark memory and proceed to tangle themselves within the tribal rythm.
Track 8- "idioteque": imagine yourselve walking into a futurisitc discotec and on arrival to be met with the most joyus vocal harmonay.
Your own high points will emerge with each listen.
This album is an exploration of the ambient and may disinfranchise the bands core giutar based fans.Radiohead are moving in ways such as Pink Floyd did 25 years or so before in the direction embraced but such other ambient pioneers as "Sigur Ros" and "Godspeed..".
What this album lacks in lyrical content (though on all occassion thought provoking) it makes up for with sound.
Make sure you get to listen to this album with a set of headphones on and drift helplessly into the realms of melancony.
Radiohead "the best you can"is most definately "good enough"
