Radiohead are boldly pushing into the monster arena with a sound that borrows on jazz made weird. Kid A's slow, plodding, atmospheric sound opens the mind like a ripe fruit. Openings and closings are what Kid A's all about, the piece moves like theatre until the final curtain.
The backbeats are great and the swooning, swelling guitars move you to the point where you'll have to watch out if your listening to this and driving. The sense of alien isolation that permeates the album, the bleak lyrics, that sometimes rage, sometimes slither, and the voice, a wail, a call, the terrors and pains of the mind laid bare. You wake up in a schizophrenic world with the audio stimuli flashing around you. Radiohead melt this mosaic together of extreme and repressed soundscapes that plunge and hurtle in scyncopation. Even if you are in a car, a drive with Kid A becomes a rocket ride to an alien planet and the journey back.
York's voice will haunt you. It'll follow you around when you turn the player off. You'll wake up and you'll hear it in your head and understand the grief in his voice, and understand the emotion in his heart. There are moments when you listen to a fine vocal track that you can feel the singer's attempt at communion with the listener on a more profound level.
Don't think too much. Shut the mind off and let yourself be drawn by the low bass beats and mournful flourishes of Radiohead's world.

Advantages: Brave new experimental direction from the Radiohead lads. Disadvantages: Difficult to get into at first, competely different to OK Computer.

Review of Kid A - Radiohead
Advantages: Completely original, brave, atmospheric sounds Disadvantages: People will only like it if they give it a chance and don't expect it to be the same as their other albums
