Well, I have all of Radiohead's albums, as well as Kid A. I much love Radiohead, Thom Yorke is the lead singer, and I honestly think they are the best band in the world. I play the piano myself, and I have managed to play some of Radiohead's songs on the piano, bear in mind they are a very complex, and a very queer band. But this is exactly why I like them so much. On this Album, there are 10 songs:
1. Everything in it's right place 2. Kid A 3. The National Anthem 4. How to disappear completely 5. Treefingers 6. Optimistic 7. In Limbo 8. Idioteque 9. Morning Bell 10. Motion picture soundtrack
The first song is very much of a groove based song. Sounding very influential to Miles Davis, the jazz performer. They use words like ''yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon''. Sounds very strange, and almost meaningless, but in fact Thom Yorke does actually mean what he says, and to every chord and sound, there is a meaning to it.
The second song is very much more of a sound based song. Using perculiar keyboard sounding instruments, making you feel very relaxed, but yet takes you into a very different world.
The third song is a very funky like song, it starts out with the drums, and then goes into a queer sounding harmony, using all types of sounds, then half way through, breaking into a spasm of jazz instruments.
The fourth song is a very sad / depressive type of song. In this song, he talks about wanting to disappear completely, and wishing he wasn't where he is, this song actually convinces you that you are disappearing, and that you are not here. A positive for me, as it is again a very relaxing and unwinding song.
The fifth song is actually the most relaxing songs they have ever done, as all it actually is, is an accompaniment of keyboard sounding instruments sounding much like what you would get in the background music of discovery channels, e.g. whales, sharks, seas etc. I would guarantee this song for sleeping, as this is the only song they have made, that has no singing in it, and is truly beautiful.
The sixth song is not a relaxing song, but starts with the drums and then Thom's voice comes in, taking you into a world of rock based drums.
The seventh song has more of a jungly feel to it, not all the way through, but just at the beginning where the keyboard sounds are unique. As the song progresses, it becomes more intense, and Thom's voice blends in beautifully with the music itself.
The eighth song is a very drum and bass influenced song, as there is alot of bass and drum. He says words like ''whose in bunker, whose in bunker, women and children first''. So it's obvious he is talking about war. Giving a very spine tingling feel to the song, and a scary feel to it.
The ninth song is a very unusual keyboard sounding song. With a strange voice, Thom is able to create a very inspiring feel to the song, but yet keep that weird feel to it.
And last but not least, motion picture soundtrack is a very sad song if you like. He uses an organ, and starts out very mellow, and brings out a very emotional sounding church type of music. A nice song for all!
I hope you have enjoyed reading my review about Kid A. I shall be writing more reviews on Radiohead in the future. I would recommend this album as I am a Radiohead fan, and radiohead do not have weak tracks, and have the advantage of creating such nice sounding music.
Hi and welcome to Ciao not really a fan of this band don't like the lead vocals, and your review could do with a bit more technical info about the album hope this helps - Milt
Advantages: It's almost completely different to every other Radiohead release Disadvantages: It's almost completely different to every other Radiohead release
