INTRODUCTION
After tackling with the giant undertaking of The Lord of the Rings trilogy and garnering so much critical and popular (as well as Oscar) success, director Peter Jackson had things pretty sweetly in his pocket, allowing him to basically do what ever he wanted. So with the studios more than willing to let Jackson have free reign over what to do next, he went in a completely different direction from the literary fantasy genre to a cinematic icon: KingKong. KingKong is of course one of the most famous movies ever made, involving a big ape being transported to New York from an obscure island as a spectacular new exibition only to escape, wreack havoc on the city, kidnap the pretty female lead, and climb to the top of the Empire State Building only to be fall down with a big thump.

Having seen this film being advertised to come on television recently, I could not pass on the opportunity to watch it. I had missed the chance to see it at the cinema, but as some of you will know, our screen is just about big enough to make the film experience special. I had heard a lot about this film when it was released. While the story was well known, the advertisements had given me the impression it would still be an amazing film. The graphics already looked quite good, but that alone is never enough. I know that a number of my friends had seen it and been quite disappointed, wondering what all the fuss was about. Perhaps it had been overrated, but I still wanted the chance to see it for myself, so I could decide.
