Advantages: Get rid of junk for cash quickly, get cash easily / quickly Disadvantages: Poor rates for your goods plus general bad aura about the place
A few weeks ago, just after Christmas, we decided our humongous CRT (i.e. very big) monitor and old keyboard and mouse just had to go. We had a new set for the Christmas season, and so concluded that our old set just wouldn't be of any use to us.
So we considered the options of selling / getting rid of the stuff. After a bit of deliberation, we decided that a good option to try would be Cash Converters - no need to wait like eBay, no need to send goods and charge huge P and P - but the cons of having to travel to the shop (twice in our case), lugging your (huge, heavy) goods around with you and not experiencing the fun and joy of the last minutes of an online auction.
Before heading off, we thought it'd be a good idea to phone them and check if they wanted the items first. Reporting back from the call, my mother told me that they ...
Advantages: Sell your unwanted goods, different stock on a weekly basis Disadvantages: Prices aren't always great
I am personally very impressed with Cash Converters, they frankly astound me. Why? not because of their amazing customer service, their bargain products, their diverse product range or well kept shops; But by the fact that they manage to sell awful products at seemably ridiculous prices. It never ceases to amaze me how they manage to sell outdated second hand phones for near enough the same price as you can get them new online. And secondhand Playstation games at the same price as you can get the game on Platinum version brand new.
But nevertheless it is an interesting shop to go into when you've got time. There's always a good range of stock. Most of the stuff is overpriced, but the shopowners know very little about the real value of a lot of goods, so there are occassional bargains to be had.
Selling experience:
I went into Cash ...
Advantages: Can get a bargain once in a blue moon. Disadvantages: Not very professional, quite a rip off. over priced.
I didnt know of this place for years until a friend of mine took me their to buy a guitar amp. It was a Marshall 50watt valve amp and was at a very good price! It opened up my eyes to the bargain he was getting and maybe I was missing out!
Coincedently, the shop then moved more into the centre of town and was easier to get to, so I make quite regular visits. Being an audio and music freak, it was always the microphones, guitars, amplifiers, mixers etc I was checking out. Every so often I would just have a general browse too however.
I thought how it must have been a one off that my mate got a bargain, because the prices didnt seem that great at all, especially for the quality of some of the things! I didnt think too much of it however.
A few months on and I was looking to get some cash for my bass guitar I no longer needed. After ...
