Advantages: great characters, great story Disadvantages: not a huge amount of romance
Kate Craig has always hated the very idea of London - but when her university boyfriend invites her to come down for a visit, she doesn't really see how she can refuse without him taking offence! When she gets there, she discovers:
1. Giles really IS posh, with his parent's palatial pad and his Eurotrash-like sister Serena
and
2. London isn't QUITE as bad as she thought.
However, then Giles announces he is leaving to go on a four month training trip to the States, and throws her a challenge - that she finds a place to stay and a job in London, and gives it a chance for the duration of the time he is away. Kate doesn't really have much of a choice but to accept - after all, Giles has already discussed it with her mother and she has decided to rent out Kate's room without consulting her first!
Kate's sister-in-law Laura ...
Advantages: Jet Li, need I say more? Disadvantages: Poor script, story not the most orginal
After the success of "The Matrix", more and more films are leaning in the same direction, wire work fights, slow motion/bullet-time etc etc. Of course none of which being able to compare with the likes of "The Matrix". The only film that has managed to pull off such a good bullet-time effect that it can give "The Matrix" a run for its money is the exploding hostage at the beginning of "Swordfish", one of the most under ratted but one of the most enjoyable actioners that year. Also in 2001, we saw the release of "Kiss Of The Dragon", a film that dares to be different, going back to the grindhouse roots of martial arts movies with no wires, no digital effects, only gritty, raw hand to hand combat that is second to none. "Kiss Of The Dragon" stars a very fast and very furious Jet Li ("The One", "Romeo Must Die") in the mean streets of Paris ...
Advantages: Great comedy DVD, good comedian Disadvantages: Not my favourite stand up
When browsing through HMV a couple of months ago now, I found myself in the mood for trying something a bit different. I am a huge comedy fan, and knew that I wanted something from this genre, but not something that I?d ever seen before. I had a look through a lot of the stand up comedy DVDs, and ended up picking this ChrisRock DVD for a number of reasons. Firstly, it was only £5, which was pretty good since most standup offerings cost a tenner if not more, and with my student discount it would only set me back £4.50; secondly, I?ve only ever really seen British and Irish comedians? shows before, and so fancied something from over the pond; and thirdly, I?d heard great things about ChrisRock, and every time I?d seen a clip of one of his shows I thought that it looked great.
So with my decision made I purchased a copy of ChrisRock ...

Album Reviews
Uncut (8/00, pp.88-9) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...With a raggedly expressive voice matched by his turn of phrase, the singer-guitarist writes from the bottom of a glass and the bottom of his heart, creating bar-room reels that speak a language beyond the usual lexicon of love..." CMJ (10/00, p.51) - "...Electrified rootsy pop...with lyrics that bites hard but not without a touch of humor..."
