FOLLOW THE MAGI TO COLOGNE

Advantages: History. Scale. Drama. Art. Views. Free Admission.
Disadvantages: Crowds. Luggage.

shrine is richly embellished with precious stones, watches and crucifixes. It is customary in Cologne for believers to donate precious stones or gold to the "miracle-working" image when needing help in love, or attempting to conceive a child. Very many other biblical and religious figures are represented here in Cologne Cathedral, all are of superb quality and remarkably well preserved. BACK TO THE THREE KINGS?? ??the shrine of which, it is mighty difficult not to be impressed by. Whatever your opinion of the relics that are encased here, and it appears that their provenance is sound, this has to rate as one of the most important historic artefacts of all time. A beautiful cathedral

Advantages: Beautiful cathedral and friendly guides
Disadvantages: None

It is possible to drive right past it on the road outside, but standing across the road on the tree-lined pathway leading to the cathedral entrance, it appears very quiet, standing majestically over Ripon centre. Entrance to the cathedral is free, although you are invited to make a donation towards the upkeep of the building. Several collection boxes are placed inside ...

Review of Ripon Cathedral

An Icy Cathedral

Advantages: Interesting place of worship
Disadvantages: Gets busy

The Arctic cathedral in Tromsø stood out amongst the smaller houses surrounding it and was visible long before we approached the bridge to cross over to the mainland. The unusual shape representing the shape of a Sami (the people who tend the reindeer) tent and the iciness of a glacier was built in 1965 on a site that was originally a bunker, being close to Russia they were prepared. The huge white walls form an A shape and there are windows at both ends of the building. The walls are 11 pieces of concrete covered with Aluminium, which represent the 11 apostles left after the betrayal of Christ. Between the wall sections is glass which lets light into the church, supplying much of the inside light in the church, especially during the midnight sun season. With the mountain behind covered in trees it stood out well, but when the snow ...
