In an interview at the time Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt who together are Everything But The Girl said that the inspiration behind this glitzy Album was the big Brass Bands of the 1920's. Advantages: old school rock n roll, no weak tracks
Disadvantages: highly influenced by older bands, little originality

...The Australian Rockers JET return with thier second album "Shine On" as the follow up title to thier outstanding debut album "Get Born". The band themselves had a very subdued debut on the UK music scene with thier songs getting little radio play. In fact two years ago very few people even knew the band existed at all, but that all changed with one vodaphone advert. Jet's reworking of the base line from Iggy Pop's "Lust for Life" led to the creation of "Are you going to be my girl?" one of the best guitar songs ever written. Since then Jet have gone from strength to strength and have certainly taken a giant leap in song writting / musical maturaty with thier latest offering. Advantages: Good music, mixture of styles
Disadvantages: Lacks originality in places

..., this is last song before the track listing gets confusing. Sounding very indie again, kinda like it's a bedroom recording, or low grade recording equipment. Nic's voice starts sounding strained, before the song takes a kinda Velvet revolver feel of harder faster rock, like it wants to bite your head off. The slows down for the verse before speeding up over the chorus a good mix of sounds and a very good song. 8/10 Kings horses (not "Hey kids" as WMP tells me), another softer song, apparently the "nursery rhyme of the album" with the soft relaxed feeling acting as a bit of a break in the album allowing for a softer sounding rock on the following track than on "Thats all lies". A good idea and a pleasant enough song. 7/10 Shine on, A song about Nic and Chris Chester's (the bands drummer) father who passed away just before the album was starting... Read review
