Korn were formed in 1990, this album was released in 1994. the band consists of 5 members, Johnathan Davis, Head, Munky, Fieldy And David. The Bakersfield band were the ones that helped Limp Bizkit to their fame in 1997. This is actually Korns 2nd second album as they released one way back in 1990, but tracks are very rare to find and this has never been released.
A short overview of the band there, this album is a Korn classic. Many people like this album the best because they say its Korn at their best, but this is a good album but i like " Follow The Leader ", Still this is a classic album. Ross Robinsons produces (Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Soulfly) this album and this rose korn to mainstream rock. This is a classic Nu-Metal Album.
Track Listing - - - - - - - - - - -
1. Blind - - - - - - - - One Of Korns all time best songs. The intro for this song is excellent, Firstly the clatter of symbols gently, then the guitars come in then You hear " Are You Ready ??!! " from Johnathan! The song then explodes into a frenzy. His dark verses and heavy choruses make this a great song. The bass is the best bass korn have ever done as its catchy and easy to perform. The outro is superb to as its just bass and guitars using foot pedal effects to make a schreeching noise. Korn released this song from this album and this done very well indeed although the video is low budget. This song is about Johnathans use of drugs and how he wants to end using them but he is unable to, so he uses more drugs to comfort himself.
2. Ball Tongue - - - - - - - - - - - - A weird, but good song. The drums thump in and then the verses are slow with weird riffs, then the choruses are the ones that explode out, he shouts somthing that is very hard to work out what it means. You can make out words but not much. A good song, this wasnt released but is played at every live show. The song is about some guy that made t shirts for them and he ended up backstabbing them because he wasnt important to the band, he was obsessed with Johnathan and Korn.
3. Need To - - - - - - - - - - Need to is a very good song which Staind covered at a recent tour. Its a heavy song with melodic verses and heavy choruses, mainly Johnathan screaming, the ending ends with a lot of screaming. This song has heavy language so it must be advised that its not suitable for young kids. The song is about whenever he gets close to a girl he really loves she ends up fucking him over, so in future relationships he doesnt want to get close because hes paranoid that she might do the same.
4. Clown - - - - - - - - Clown focuses on high school life that johnathan went through. Its a heavy but melodic song, The end is johnathan screaming somthing about just a fucking little CLOWN! somthing like that,a good song but very dark in a heavy way. The song is about johnathan being different to others and that he wanted to show himself for who he really is. Korn released this song off the album also.
5. Divine - - - - - - - - Divine is a okay song, heavy in parts. Not very melodic just heavy, i like what the song means. It means that johnathan wanted some girl that didnt want him, so when she found out that she wanted him he lost intrest so it was his turn to have some fun (happened to me a lot!!). Shows that he cant be picked up and down a lot.
6. Faget - - - - - - - LOL a very good song from this album, drums at the start set the pace along with rythm guitar. During the verses head plays weird riffs and the bass is good too. When it gets to the bridge, things start getting weird. Johnathan starts screaming about faggots, then another bridge appears which is the best part of the song and it goes total crazy. I advise any korn fan to listen to this, they also released this song. Very low budget video. The song is about when Johnathan used to hang around gay bars with his friends, so now he has to joke about it to make himself feel okay.
7. Shoots And Ladders - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The best korn track on the album in my view. The song starts with Johnathan playing his bagpipes, then he drums and other stuff come in. His verses are made from nursery ryhmes, the verses and chorus is slow and catchy, then from the bridge on it gets very heavy. The outro is also very heavy, i love the whole design of the song, they released this also. The song is about kids singing nursery ryhmes and not knowing what they mean, Nursery ryhmes have meaning behind them and most of the time they are dark.
8. Predictable - - - - - - - - - - - - A good song, Its not heavy much. Its more melodic. The best part is where the bass and the guitars go in sync and play together, its truly world class. I love it. The song is about every relationship that John goes into, he always get hurt, so its predictable whats going to happen.
9. Fake - - - - - - - Good heavy song, well thought out lyrics and excellent bass. They should of released this but releasing more than 4 songs off a album is a bit to much, i would reckon this would be next though. The song is about people changing themselves to be in with the mainstream crowd, and not being yourself. This is known as a fake, hence the title.
10. Lies - - - - - - - I like this song a lot, very melodic but heavy at the same time. The chorus is catchy, truly a sing a long song. Not to make this sound poppy :). Very good lyrics and thought out song, the ending the best with screaming. The song is similiar to clown and fake about people who are scared to step out the line and they will be classed as different.
11. Helmet In The Bush - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Ive listened to the song once and never listened to it again. I dont like it very much, its boring and has nothing to it. A true weakness in this classic album. I dont know what the song means as ive not heard it much to make a gud judgement.
12. Daddy - - - - - - - - Daddy is all about John whinging about his mother and father, there are no instruments and its just very eerie and gothic like. The song is pretty long and he does get sensitive during it, the song is about when he was abused when he was younger and he went to his parents but they never done nothing about it because they thought he was joking around.
Conclusion - - - - - - - - - This album is a classic nu-metal album and every korn album should have it, i love it! the only weakness is helmet in the bush which i dont like one bit, i dont know bout the rest of you though. The artwork on the cover is weird, a picture of a small child sitting on a swing on the front and then on the back the child has gone but there is footprints leading away! oooo! lol :)
Look out for my Korn - Life Is Peachy op, coming soon!!
Advantages: KoRn are a great band with good lyrics and musical talent. Disadvantages: a couple of the songs sound similar but theres no harm in that as they are still good.
Korn were formed around 1990 and they released this cd in 1994 ,this cd has very strong lyrical meanings which alot of people can relate to ,KoRn consists of 5 members which include Jonathan Davis(vocals),fieldy(bass),head and munky(guitars) and david on the drums.KoRn are also the ones who signed Limp Bizkit on their Elementree record label.

Advantages: This is one of the cds that invented nu-metal. First listen it is "good", from then on it's jaw dropping Disadvantages: It's perhaps less accessible than korn's other albums
...album, the like of which korn have never really managed to produce properly again. There are absolutely no fillers on this album, it does not fade out after the legendary "blind", nor does John Davies show any sign of letting up as he produces the insane sounds that make up the chorus of "ball tongue" - which is where we are first properly introduced to the unique korn bass sound - this consists of rhythms slapped unusually fast at ridiculously low ... ...elements to the sound, and korn were one of the first bands to do this; however i will make a point here that korn never ever sink to the unmusical level of football crowd shouting choruses etc, that are typical of most hip hop influenced metal bands. Whatever korn do they carry it off with style and energy, and the emotional content of the songs and John davieses voice are never dull or repetitive. For people new to metal who consider it "all shouting" ...

Advantages: fabulous mixture of passion, emotion and anger Disadvantages: none
I have all four Korn album's, and I think that in many ways this is their best. Probably the heaviest album, it all kicks off with the low slung, grinding riff of 'Blind'. From here on classic songs just pile up. Jonathan davis deals with issues many artists would shy from, and his lyrics are shockingly powerful without being perverse or overly controversial. 'Clown' fires up with its powerful line 'Throw your hate at me with all your might, hit ... ...experience the same sort of emotion and pain that he went through, something which can be very hard to do, yet Korn do it superbly.
Though the other Korn albums are superb in their own individual way, you will not find a more powerful metal album than this. ...

Advantages: Some good songs Disadvantages: Some disturbing material covered
Korn’s first album has some of what I regard as their best songs on. Tracks like Blind, Predictable, Shoots and Ladders for example. Unfortunately there are also plenty of songs of dubious quality on the album. Don’t get me wrong – they’re not dire, but compared to the quality of songs across some of the other albums, Issues for example, it’s disappointing (Depending on the order you buy the albums in I suppose). Despite the up and down quality of ...

...albums. the way in which korn build up their anger and hate and fear and produce cracking songs such as 'blind' and 'ball tongue', though, korn will always be remembered for it's best song, and a rock anthem, 'faget', telling the story of jonathon davis when he was at school. perhaps i like this album because i can relate to it's themes, having experienced many myself, but even still, for those of you who are popular, it gives an inside view of what ... ...in that respect, korn have done their jobs. after 'faget' their next most notorious song is 'daddy' which has even more haunting lyrics than any other song they've done. it is truely a classic, which many people are unable to listen to because of it's theme, lyrics, and generally it's psychological effect of the listener. this album truely is a masterpiece and should be on your shelf. ...

Advantages: Lots of excellent consistent hard and soft rock tracks! Disadvantages: There are none if you like weird rock music. If you don't then this is probably not you're type of music
...There are two CDs in this box set by Korn, Korn and Follow the Leader.
Korn was the first album out of these two, in fact it was actually Korn's first ever album. It has twelve tracks that are sort of rap hardcore metal. Not as in rap like Eminem etc. I mean a good lot of heavy metal with a good beat; it is like a mixture between rock, punk and metal. They are sort of like Slipknot in a way because of they're random music, and rhythm, however in Korn you can actually hear the words slightly clearer! Overall it is a LOUD, ANGRY, HEAVY METAL album.
This album you can only play on full blast volume, it is not quiet. It has fourteen random tracks and it stays like that the whole way through. Well that's what makes it so good! It has a good rhythm and beat to it for every track. If you like System of a Down, Linkin Park...

Advantages: all classic tracks Disadvantages: The white noise at the end of the CD - why?
...In a similar move to Coal Chamber, Korn return with album that has melodies (Yes that does say melodies) on it and the results are good, beating Coal Chamber?s Chamber Music. Without a doubt it?s Korn?s best album to date, with tracks like Falling Away From Me, Trash, Somebody Someone and Dirty it leaves Korn?s other releases behind. The Hip Hop element that was present on their previous release, Follow The Leader has gone and has been replaced by more complex arrangements of the songs and I prefer it. I liked the Hip Hop thing as well, but I this is better. There are a few things about the album I don?t like. Wake Up is a good verse spoiled by the rest of the song and the white noise that takes the places of the secret track on the normal version of the album is annoying. If you own no Korn albums, start here....

Additional personnel: Judith Kiener (vocals). Recorded at Indigo Ranch Studios, Malibu, California. "Shoots And Ladders" was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. "Are you readyyyy?!" With that question--an inquiry that begins as a growl and ends as a scream--Jonathan Davis provides a fitting beginning to this searing collection of relentless, metallicized thrash/funk. His question is well-posed; this is not music for the faint of heart. Producer Ross Robinson and Korn have found a formula that works: start with a layer of fuzz-soaked guitar, add some big beats, and finish the whole construct off with a healthy dose of Davis's tortured vocals. This is dark music, scary music. It's also occasionally funky music. "Ball Tongue," with its stop/start syncopation, tinny guitar whine, and stripped-down-to-the-bone verse, is a perfect encapsulation of the Korn style. The track also contains a trace of (gasp!) Hip-Hop flavor, but you won't be hearing this L.A. quartet on the dance floor any time soon. Their assault is severe, fueled with explosive bursts of guitar a la Metallica, as well as frenetic tempo changes reminiscent of Faith No More. The themes are frustration, alienation, pain, explored the way a bulldozer might peruse a patch of daisies. Through songs like "Divine," where guitar and drums intertwine to form a sinewy, intricate rhythmic pulse, and "Fake," in which Davis's voice alternates between a dreamy sing-song and a demonic roar, Korn amply displays both their musicianship and their rage. But the disc's most startling moment is the last. "Daddy," in which the farthest reaches of human cruelty and depravity are held up and judged by an abused child, begins with a haunting surprise--and ends in an emotional meltdown, a final purge, with Davis sobbing, screaming, "You ruined my life!" Korn exorcises their demons the only way they know how--with music.
