THE NOTE OF CAUTION:
Kottke has experimented over the years, and some of his releases vary in general quality of content because of his insistence in pushing the envelope, especially with his voice, which may be as bad as Bert Jansch’s. Even as hard-core a fan as me has occasionally bought one and, frankly, never listened to it again. Do not be dissuaded if this has happened to you. I would urge first-time listeners to stick to "LeoKottke: 6-and-12-String Guitar," the Capitol release "Greenhouse", or the more recent Rhino Records LeoKottke anthology.
And if he's ever in the neighborhood, do go see him. It's a wonderful evening, especially if the setting is rather intimate.
Also, if you're REALLY into him, try and get a hold of JohnFahey's seminal Takoma album "Blind Joe Death", which...

...The John Lennon Collection-John Lennon is a "greatest hits" compilation that I have mixed feelings about. Granted, each and every one of the nineteen tracks on this album are fine tunes which in one way or another define the musician, vocalist and writer that John Lennon was--my personal view is that he was one of the greatest rock 'n roll musicians of our time. The qualms that I have about this collection arise from the fact that it contains his most commercial tracks--some of the true Lennon gems are not included on this album. I can't recommend this album as being truly representative of his music, simply because some of his more obscure (and best) songs aren't present, but as a collection of his most popular tunes, it fills the bill.
