Twilight Zone Moments with Mutter

Advantages: The Romances; concerto's third movement.
Disadvantages: Tempo, pitch and volume quirks in Concerto.

...concerts as Music Director of the NYPO. Thoroughly enjoying the exquisite rendition of the Brahms Violin Concerto * by Mutter, Masur and the NYPO (1997), I naturally had my hopes set high for this outing. So what’s happened here? Not a lot of good, I’m afraid. Mutter has decided to inject her very individual concepts of tempo and phrasing into the work--unwisely so, methinks. Rather than deepening the experience for me, her changes instead sound self-conscious, as if she were trying to get our attention with a yell saying, "Hey, you! Aren't my drawn-out notes and odd meters simply lovely?" No, I say, they're not. Mutter acknowledges the need for "maturity" and "humility" in the musician who wishes to tap into the tragic side of Beethoven (as the liner notes put forth in a self-congratulatory piece disguised as an interview... Heaven sent
Review of Postcards From Heaven - Lighthouse Family by stitch1969

Advantages: Great for relaxing to.
Disadvantages: I haven't found any.

...For me, The Lighthouse Family are the bright light in the music industry. For me no other singer/s come close to them. Postcard from heaven was released in the latter half of 1997. A little background history to The Lighthouse Family. They are Paul Tucker and Tunde Baiyewu. Paul worked in a Newcastle bar to help support his degree at Newcastle uni, he was and is a prolific songwriter. Tunde spent most of his childhood in Nigeria. He attended Newcastle Uni and also worked in a bar (a different one from Paul). They met through mutual friends and the rest they say is history. This album has 10 tracks and each one as good as the last. Track one. Raincloud. An upbeat track with violins, percussian and keyboard. A song about hiding away from life. Backing vocals echoing Tunde's wonderful voice. Track two. Once in a blue moon... Read review
