Advantages: Beautiful melodies, beautifully interpreted Disadvantages: Some might be put off by the fact it is in French
...version near the end of this CD ('This little heart'); personally I prefer the French version.
♥Il n'y a pas d'amour heureux♥
This is a famous poem by Aragon (a significant French poet and resistant), put to music by Georges Brassens (a very important singer-song-writer in France, little known in this country). 'Il n'y a pas d'amour heureux' means 'there is no love that's lucky' (or happy), and it is quite a reflective song. Françoise's version replaces the simple guitar accompaniment of the original with a beautiful piano arpeggio, and her voice is perfectly suited to the sad theme of the song.
♥Mon amie la rose♥
A song about the brevity of human life, like the rose, beautiful one day, faded the next… The CD also includes the Italian version 'La tua mano'.
♥Tous les garçons et les filles♥...

Advantages: Soothing, laid back, top guitar and piano Disadvantages: Some slightly weaker tracks
...a quirky song overall, but it has a certain flow that can't be ignored. Superb combination of organ, piano, keyboards, and, of course, the classic Rea guitar.
- Mississippi
'Bonus Track' according to the inlay, but it seems more like 'Track 13' to me! Not a bad track at all, especially the chorus, which has a certain uplifting feel to it. Hammond organ used in a more poppy way that usual, but this makes an excellent finish to the album.
- Sur la plage est un bon artiste
Overall, this is a great album – it has one or two not as strong tracks – but they're all generally listenable, and the good tracks are VERY good. Chris showing his talent again with some top guitar work, and the general chilled feel of the album is a refreshing change. Great!...

Advantages: All good strong performances with some absolutely glorious Disadvantages: Some of the arias do not show the singers at their best
....
Carmen, opéra-comique in 4 acts Habanera: La voila... L'amour est oiseau rebelle
Composed by Georges Bizet
Performed by London Philharmonia Orchestra
with Yelena Obraztsova
Conducted by Giuseppe Patane
>Yelena Obraztsova has a fine strong voice and is quite subtle in places. Her voice is not smooth - very different from say the Carmen of Leontyne Price or Grace Bumbry - rather she is powerful and vivid - a performance that you either love (for all the passion and excitement) or hate (quite a hard voice and manner).
Orfeo ed Euridice (Italian version), opera in 3 acts, Wq. 30 Che faro senza Euridice
Composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck
Performed by London Philharmonia Orchestra
with Agnes Baltsa
Conducted by Riccardo Muti
> Baltsa gives a full force performance here, very different from the famous performance by Kathleen...
