This debut album continues the duos foray into euphoric retro-dance, nodding non-ironically to the likes of The Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Heaven 17 and The Human League while remaining impressively contemporary. Opening with a string of sassy tunes--the buzzing "Tigerlily", the synth-heavy "Quicksand" and the slick and fiery "Bulletproof"--its apparent that La Roux have colour, class and confidence in spades. The album tapers off a little during the second half--failed experiments like "Cover My Eyes" which features the London Community Gospel Choir don't help--but it still boasts way more in the shape of dynamic killers than sappy fillers. Advantages: A good album to support her well known hits. All songs are good! Disadvantages: People that don't like high pitched singing may find this aggravating!

Also, La Roux's voice changes alot! Her voice changes in alot of the songs, its quite impressive. ... ...go album
La Roux is like the new trend of music at the moment that is kind of student/ late teen music. It has this 'cool' factor, festival type music.
The song 'Cover my eyes' makes me feel like I'm on holiday, its really different. Her album has such a variety of tunes, it really is so unique. There must be something on here that everyone will like. ... more

I don't think this album would disappoint fans as all the songs are all quite different from each other. They have what was appealing about 'In for the Kill' in them: originality and catchiness.
Also, La Roux's voice changes alot! Her voice changes in alot of the songs, its quite impressive. 'Bulletproof' compared to 'In for the Kill' is crazy, and then in 'Colourless' its different again!

Advantages: Very unique style and voice, Very original Disadvantages: Tracks sound quite over produced, A few boring tracks
...she seems to brand herself and let no-one alter her quirkiness (e.g. the ginger quiff lol). La roux is an okay album with some good tracks but in my opinion i think her longevity will be somewhat limited by her distinct voice - as all the tracks sound veryy similar! ...

Advantages: funky, edgy, easy listening. Disadvantages: not for you if you don't like synth tracks.
I think this album is fantastic, it's great to listen to something completely origional. I can listen to the album all the way through without skipping songs which is a rareity in my oppinion. The album is edgy with its synths and great beats. She sings about real affairs that are obviously personal to her. She makes the album more multicultural through use of steel drums in "tigerlilly" and a gospel choir in "Cover my Eyes". This album could be ...

Advantages: More interesting that most of today's 80s revival. Disadvantages: Couldn't live up to the media hype.
La Roux's debut album was so eagerly awaiting it was going to have to be amazing to meet expectations. Sadly it hasn't met mine. The three singles, Quicksand, In for the Kill and Bulletproof have been carefully selected for there hit quality. They have all done well in the charts, but the rest of the album doesn't hit the mark for me. Elley Jackson and Ben Longmaid have great music taste and the influence of Depeche Mode, Heaven 17, etc is apparent ...
