Apologies for the lack of opinions lately. I've been on holiday and had a spot of writers block. I'm not entirely happy about the new scheme for rewards, but I should still be writing again soon. :)

‘Lady Marmalade’ was first done in 1975 by Labelle, who took the song straight to No. 1, and more recently the song was a B-side on All Saints No. 1 smash hit ‘Under the Bridge’.
Believe me when I say both are tame compared to this.
The song itself, most people have heard at one point or another. But just to recap, this funky disco classic, with partly French lyrics, is a song that celebrates the independence of women. It has great rhythm and it’s the type of song that really makes you want to get up and shake your thang.
It’s been years since there’s been collaboration as good as this one. The four ladies in question are HUGE. Pink’s debut album ‘Can’t Take me Home’ is top of the R ‘n’ B chart here on Ciao, Mya had a No. 2 hit in 2000 with ‘Case of the Ex’ and pop princess Christina has had three Top 5 hit singles since ‘Genie in a Bottle’ a couple of years back. Lil’ Kim is the only name that I am not familiar with, but I hear she’s a pretty big hip-hop artist in the US.
Just imagine if all the fans of each artist buy the single. My guess is it will go straight to No. 1 in the charts, and it deserves to.
I saw the video for the first time today and was hugely impressed. The song is part of the soundtrack for ‘Moulin Rouge’, out the end of May, directed by Baz Luhrman and starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, and the video is staged on that set.
The girls are dressed in cabaret costumes – all corsets, feathers, high heels and lashings of gaudy make-up. Each adopts the chosen theme to suit their own personal style and each of them looks totally gorgeous as wild, sexy, flamboyant showgirls.
The song tests all their voices to the limit. Fortunately, all put in very strong performances and sound really great together.
It’s a great song, and this is one hell of an interpretation.

It's a great song anyway, and this treatment of it is excellent. Personally I think the video is too much - and they did it live on the MTV awards the other week too, not something I would be happy letting my kids watch. Too 'in yer face' for my taste, I'm not a prude and it's fine for adults, but why can't our kids be kids anymore?

Great op, drusilla, on what is probably my favourite song right now.
