this, his 2nd album, features only 7 tracks, but each one is awesome. he has created a whole new genre in itself. he proclaims it to be 'post punk laptop rap'. this essentially means he has blended the catchy basslines and ryhtmic beats of hip-hop and rap, with the grinding, headbanging chorus' of punk music.
take for example 'signing emo' the first single that was released it has some great rapping and a punk rock / emo chorus, and it just blend together so perfectly
Track list 1 "iGeneration" (samples "American Hearts" by Piebald) 2 "UK Visa Versa" 3 "Hurricane Fresh" 4 "Signing Emo" (samples "Cry Tonight" by Hearts That Hate) 5 "STAT-60" 6 "Straight Outta Stockholm" 7 "Mr. Raven" (samples "Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't" by Brand New)
he has an amazing ability to create intelligent raps, which sound perfect, and doesnt need to us cuss words in his songs because to quote him 'its just a waste of a good rhyme'. the final song on the album 'Mr Raven' essentially give the plot of an edgar allen poe poem, once again emphasis the intellectual side to his lyrics.
whilst probably not appealing to everyone's taste, fans of rock music, or rap music should at least listen to a couple of tracks, and they will be hooked
Advantages: Funny, upbeat rap Disadvantages: Not for everyone
the current record industry in a classy and tasteful way, creating not only good music but pointing out a few home truths.
'The Roomate from Hell' features MC Chris and the two of them together create an amazing song. MCLars in not generic by any standard.
MCLars does have an EP out, 'The Laptop' which although does have a couple of crossover songs from this album, if you get the chance to listen, also features some incredibly new and upbeat tracks.
MCLars is one of those artists you will either love or hate, and personally i love him. I would certainly recommend listening to some free sample of his music before purchasing this album, because what i see as a musical genious, many see as a talentless yob
