eldest daughter Laura to leave her home in the quiet hamlet of Lark Rise and embark on a new life in the busy, neighbouring market town of Candleford.n
work of Flora Thompson. And in adapting her books in the form of the television production Lark Rise To Candleford, it has brought another compelling piece of drama to the screen. Lark Rise To Candleford is set at the end of the 19th century, and it follows the story of two communities in the midst of a developing Oxfordshire. One is a fast-growing market town, the other a sleepier, quieter place that's holding more onto the past. Centred on Laura, the eldest daughter in the Timmins house, as she leaves the quieter life for work in the market town, the stage is then set for a quality drama series. All ten episodes are present and correct on the Lark Rise To Candleford DVD set, and there's a lot to enjoy. The cast, for instance, is simply terrific, with Julia Sawalha, Dawn French and Olivia Hallinan rightly taking plaudits. And the journey of their characters, along with those of the strong supporting cast, is simply wonderful television. Mixing in humour, drama and the production values we seem to take for granted from the BBC, Lark Rise To Candleford really is quite a treat. And what's more, it's proof positive that when it comes to television period drama, there really isn't anyway doing it better. Super stuff. --Jon Foster
Advantages: amazing album, lyrics, loads of tracks Disadvantages: nothing
...right lets start, anybody who appreciates good music should buy this album because it is f--king amazing, the sound, the tracks and the story the album tells, compare it to some of the commercial sell outs such as the arctic monkeys and the kaiser cheifs and it is astounding, look at classic tracks such as killamangiro and albion, and the lesser known tracks pipedown and up the morning. The lyrical content completely overwhelms the competition such as feeble attempts from bands like the killers with songs that are pointless and mean nothing to the band. Albion still keeps true to being this libertine figure that looks for his perfect england with gin in teacups and fights in dole ques. And an angry fuck forever that refrences to almost every point in peters life, from the libertines to past relationships. If the album was a car...

Road Movies Review ofRoad Movies - AlbionBand (The)by
pisanio2005
Advantages: An interesting albion band line-up Disadvantages: Nothing too exciting
...I wish I liked this album more than I do. Ashley Hutching's' latest combo to fly the AlbionBand banner features the ubiquitous songstress Kellie While and the multi-talented Joe Broughton on fiddle, mandolin, keyboard and guitar.
The trouble is, the album doesn't hang together. Sure it sounds like the band were having fun, but this is an album woefully short on quality. Two songs stand out: the soulful When My Son is Grown and She Still Waits. The majority of the album is humdrum and certain tracks like Cookery is the New Rock'n'Roll risk taking the Albions into Barron Knights territory. Even the excellent She Still Waits has its impact lessened by a spoken sub-Coney Island into, pretentiously titled It is That Window of Time.
Road movies is a student film at best, and only of interest to die-hard Albion fans. Punters new to the group...

Albion Review ofUp The Bracket - Libertines (The)by
cottonwool_monkey
Advantages: Groundbreaking first release from monsters of rock Disadvantages: You will fall in love
...This band will take you on a whirlwind adventure through the back alleys of Soho, down Cally road, out through Camden and into Albion. As quintessentially english as croquet and tea and crumpets The Libertines do not fail to deliver, and this album takes every good and bad point about London and England and twists them into something indescribably beautiful. There are no let downs on this album, every single second is a classic and irrefutably flawless in an unpolished way, from the delicately melancholy ending to Tell The King to Pete's deranged "Geeeooouutavit" at the begining of Up The Bracket. The Libertines set the standard for bands of today, this album is worth its weight in gold, definately not to be missed.
This album is available from most high street music stores, certainly any selling any alternatine rock music...
