...The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK was founded by Ray McVay in the 80's . This was done after talks with the Glenn Miller Estate, who had listened to many of Ray McVay's tracks.
Who is Ray McVay?
Ray McVay was born in the late 30's in Scotland. He became a professional musician at the tender age of 13 as a rocking sax player. In the 50's he became a music director for many big names such as Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Conway Twitty and BillyFury.
As Rays name got bigger and better known in the music industry, and fronted his own show band known as the Ray McVay Orchestra. He started to play for the Mecca Organization playing around the country before headlining at Mecca's big venue, the Lyceum Ballroom in London's west end.. Advantages: Billy Joel at his best - live Disadvantages: I can't imagine it's too easy to find
...As the Cold War is drawing to an end Billy Joel goes to Russia and rocks their world.
It's a little album that I picked up quite cheaply on tape, Kohuept is a live concert. I still find Billy's live stuff about a million times better than when it's recorded, he brings life and heart to the music when he has to sell it there and then to real people.
The concert starts with a traditional Russian chant that melts into Angry Young Man, with Billy slamming on the piano as always. Stiletto and Big Man on Mulberry Street are big powerful numbers to sing along to.
Then Honesty and Baby Grand bring you down to a relaxing bluesy swoon.
He also covers The Beatles' Back in the USSR and Dylan's The Times They Are A-Changing, to brilliant poignant effect.
It's hard to find fault, except maybe that the crowd sound somewhere in Honalulu, but you...
