There probably are not enough superlatives to describe just how good this latest release from Kayne is ... awesome, thrilling, enthralling, superb, excellent, revitalisng, wicked ... the list goes on. It is truly up there to rival Jay-Z's Balck Album, one of the recent great hip-hop albums.
Building on the huge success of his preceding album "College Dropout", Kayne blends some fantastic non-hip hop samples to great effect, creating ingenious tracks, such as Diamonds from Sierra Leone, which even the legend Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter cannot resist appearing on.
Kayne has brought a breath of fresh air into the hip-hop scene, as I - personally - have become very disenchated with hearing the saminess typified by Eminem. Each track brings something new and the whole album is very cleverly put together and produced. Mr West is bound to be around for some time, with no doubts that his impending, almost sell-out, tour of the UK will prove to be another massive success.
The album comprises 22 deliciously concocted tracks, which run from start to finish more smoothly than an "Innocent" (TM) smoothie drink. Some of the highlights include;
* Heard 'Em Say - Terrific starting track, with light piano riffs and light beat box playing throughout the track, slow and smooth build into the album. Uses excerpts from Natalie Cole's "Someone That I used To Love".
* Touch The Sky - Specific use of trumpets, more upbeat than the more laid back starting track. Samples from Curtis Mayfield "Move on Up"
* Gold Digger - Awesome track, containing samples from "I Got A Woman" by Ray Charles, and demonstrates Kayne's ableness as a clever lyricist.
* Drive Slow - Reminds me of a Dr Dre track, clearly illustrating Kayne's ability to blend different fusions of Hip Hop together.
* My Way Home - Contains a sample of "Home Is Where the Hatred is", performed by Gill Scott Heron, greater emphasis on percussion, keyboards and guitar riffs throughout - relaxed laid back track.
* Crack Music - The sample of the New York Community Choir is used to very good effect as a backing vocal throughout this more up-tempo percussion / bass orientated track. "La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la!"
* Roses - Legendary soul artist Bill Withers is a guest sample on this more soulful Hip-Hop track.
* Bring Me Down - Features Brandy.
* Diamonds from Sierra Leone - The ultimate attention grabber, with the legendary Shirley Bassey opening proceedings with a sample from "Diamonds are Forever". Bound to go down as a Hip Hop classic.
