Advantages: Good tunes Disadvantages: Looses the atmosphere of the original
Bullitt is one of my favourite films and no small part of that is LaloSchifrin’s jazz flavoured sound track. However it’s not a particularly straight form of jazz. My father is a large fan of jazz and yet couldn’t name any other artist who has produced music similar to Lalo’s sound track. The overall tone of the music is darker than ‘normal’ jazz, reflecting the less than cheery outlook of the movie.
However, this is NOT the original sound track, oh no. There are quite a few Bullitt CD’s floating round and this one, released in May 2001 is somewhat obviously not the original original sound track. Instead it’s a re-recording supervised by Lalo and performed by the musical talents of the WDR orchestra, “Bullitt – Music recreated from and inspired by the motion picture” ...
WHAT IS IT?
The Jazz is Honda's entry into the highly contested and ever popular "supermini" market. It is a five door hatchback, a very simple range to choose from as there are no variants; saloon, convertible etc, all Jazz models therefore share the same "two box" styling. For those of you to whom it may be important, the dimensions are as follows:
Length 3845mm x Width 1878mm x Height 1525mm.
It is therefore a fairly short, yet wide and tall small car, having a tardis affect inside where it seems much larger than you would think looking at the car sitting next to the pavement.
There are any number of competitors from Japanese, Korean and European countries, probably its' most likely competition can be found in the form of the Ford Fiesta, Mitsubishi Colt, Nissan Micra and Vauxhall Corsa, all of which offer a much larger ...

Advantages: space, comfort, flexibility, fuel economy Disadvantages: absolutely none for me
Having endured a horrifying M5 breakdown in my 5 year old Escort not long ago, I decided the time was right for a new car. And I wanted brand new, in the hope that I would be guaranteed a few years trouble-free motoring (and hopefully no sudden expenses) with a good warranty and some peace of mind.
In my new car, I wanted the following features:
Light and easy to drive
Comfortable seating and leg room in the back
Fuel economy
A good sounding stereo
Affordable insurance
Quiet and reasonably powerful engine
Safety
Good looks
Flexibility (i.e. can take large packages/suitcases etc when necessary)
A make with a strong reputation for reliability
Extra gizmos
Under (preferably considerably under) £10,000
A lot to ask? Yes, but then along came the Honda Jazz?
Criteria 1: Light and easy to drive
My Honda Jazz drives ...

Includes liner notes by Lalo Schifrin. "Fiesta" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement. LATIN JAZZ SUITE was nominated for the 2000 Latin Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Album. With the help of Cologne's WDR Big Band and acclaimed jazzmen such as Jon Faddis and David Sanchez, arranger/conductor Lalo Shifrin makes his way through a six-part suite that mixes jazz with the rhythms of Latin music, from Brazilian to Cuban and more. The soloists--particularly saxophonist Sanchez, are inspired and full of fire, and the album burns brightly with both indigenous Latin rhythms and the spirit of the ensemble. Still, no matter how organic and spontaneous the music becomes, Schifrin's inherent harmonic sophistication can be felt. It's this dynamic pull between cognitive structure and pure, unfettered expression that gives LATIN JAZZ SUITE its essential dynamic tension. From the percolating, polyrhythmic percussion of the fourth movement ("Fiesta") to the simple, poignant, almost Asian-sounding flute solo of the fifth movement ("Ritual") and beyond, the range of tonal colors and melodic contours is as wide as it is inviting.
Album Reviews
Down Beat (10/00, p.74) - 3.5 stars out of 5 - "...The WDR Big Band back the noted composer/pianist with the help of a few North and South Americans....It's a wonderful opportunity for [Jon] Faddis and [David] Sanchez to strut their Latin-jazz chops..."
