The Essential Soundtrack To My Youth

Advantages: Great Songs You Remember From Films
Disadvantages: Dancing The 'Hot Stuff' From 'The Full Monty'!!

I am a huge music fan, I have been since I was old enough to listen and since that day, I have had a diverse music taste, I cannot pin point my favourite genre and I find music very uplifting & I especially love music in films. So, did you, like me, love the music used in Uma Thurman & John Travolta's dancing scene in 'Pulp Fiction', did you feel Donna Summer's 'Hot Stuff' dancing scene in 'The Full Monty' was great, did you love the hustle soundtrack to 'Lock, Stock & 2 Smoking Barrels'? Are you a Film Four fan? If you can answer yes to any of these questions, I am certain you'd find something you like on this album. Essential Soundtracks was released back in 1999, the second year of my A-levels and I bought this CD in Woolies for a mere £4.99 for a 40 track double CD, I purely bought this for the more trendy numbers from ...

Urban Renewal (The songs of Phil Collins) - Various Artists

Advantages: Loads of Phil Collins songs
Disadvantages: Loads of Phil Collins songs messed up

An album of remixed Phil Collins tracks performed by r&b and hip hop artists. Risky, seeing as the man himself as churned out classic after classic and as you can imagine it wasnt well received by, well anyone. I did however purchase because i like Phil Collins and i like hip hop & r&b so i took a chance. I should have spent my money on buying that indoor ten pin bowling set instead. Saying that there is a couple of decent tunes on here but as a whole, not the greatest ive spent my money on Tracks Another Day In Paradise - Ray J & Brandy. The single to come off this album was received quite well, not a bad video and the brother sister duet that everyone wanted to hear. An up to date version but not better than the original. You may find me saying that more often than not Sussudio - Ol Dirty Bastard. Shocking. No resemblence ...

Review of Urban Renewal (The Songs Of Phil Collins) - Various Artists

Forget the year, these are timeless.

Advantages: Some cracking tracks by big names.
Disadvantages: Couple of tracks that do not belong.

. ~~~The Tracks~~~ With the first three tracks by Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong you just know it is going to be good. Then we have Diana Kraal, quite the modern day jazz queen. Then, bizzarely on CD one we see Moondance by Van Morrison, which to me does not sit right on this album at all, let alone sandwiched between Nina Simone and Etta James! I'm also not sure that Georgie Fame (yeh, yeh) should sit in this company. The first CD has a few nice surprises however and Shirley Horn singing 'Hit the Road Jack' and playing piano with some class is a bit of a new one to me, it has an almost 'Fever' beat to it, love it. Not to mention a piece of Alto sax playing that is quite astounding. Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins and Sonny Stitt team up for 'On the Sunny Side of the Street', I never new that, wow, and it is good, I ...
