Here is another CD review. I have decided to go through my CD collection and start to review each of them. Unfortunately, I have sold this CD to my friend but it was one of my favorite CDs ever.
Mention Shakira to me and I will say #ss shaking. This is because of her dancing trademark. Well, years ago, the name Shakira was foreign to our ears but she was very well known in the Latin Music scene. If I am not wrong, she started singing at the age of 13.
I have always been a
fan of Shakira since the days when she dyed her whole hair red and was a bit bigger than now (she has lost weight) before she went main stream with an English album.
Well, with her world earned fame with the release of her album Laundry Service, she has stared in numerous commercials for Adidas who is sponsoring her current world tour and Pepsi. She even has a single released for Pepsi called Ask For More.
She recently made the headlines by selling her Miami mansion for 2.2 million dollars. This girl really knows how to make money!
Before I move on, my condolences go to Shakira for losing her manager which passed away recently.
This album is really a good one and is a must have for everyone. I am serious when I mention this. Not many CDs are as good as this one. It is value for money and you are not being ripped off by a squeaky voice singer with a pretty face.
Shakira’s sound is unique and has a slight Arabic influence to it. She has definitely made a mark in the music scene with this release and earns the status of being a Diva. All her album is recorded with live instruments in the studio. No electric sounds are being used. If you are curious what electric sounds are it is like Madonna’s album Music. Electric sounds are generated by computerized instruments.
Some of my favorite songs and singles:
Whenever Wherever This is her debut single that made a huge impact for her. It is a very good song that you can easily dance to. The video also showed her massive #ss shaking skills. My favorite extract lyric from the song happens to be “Luckily my breast are small and humble, so you don’t confuse them with mountains”
Underneath Your Clothes The second single by Shakira that demonstrates her soft side. It has always become a must for pop singers to release a dance song and then a sentimental one. Well, this song declares the ownership of her boyfriend. Her real life boyfriend, a son of a politician guest stars in the video. An extract of the lyric, “Underneath your clothes, there’s an endless story, That’s the man I choose, That’s my territory”
Objection (Tango) This is her third single release and the one that demonstrates that she plays the harmonica well too. The video is another great performance by her with her dancing skills. A bit of humor was also placed on the video with some animated character of herself and appearances by Batman and Robin look-a-like heroes. A little extract from the song, “Objection, I don’t want to be an exception, I love you for free and I am not your mother”.
Shakira is also a well known live performer. Do watch out for her Tour Of The Mongoose DVD coming out soon.
If you like the music of Shakira, do listen to acts like Nelly Furtado, Natasha Beddingfield, Ruslana (Eurovision 2004 Winner) and Chantal Kreviazuk.
Please be aware that a new repacked album is released that features all her videos from the album. It is called Laundry Service: Washed & Dried. So, if you are deciding on purchasing this album, get the re-released one.
