Most people are surprised when they hear about my musical tastes. Most see me as someone purely into heavy metal, my friends as heavy metal and clasic rock, but even my very close friends don't seem to understand how far my taste goes. I have always loved every type of metal and some rap and dance but it is only recently when i discovered the wonders of 70's Soul and funk. The first time i heard AlGreen was on Pulp Fiction with the song "Let's stay together". I loved the song from the first time i heard it but never looked into it until i bought the movie soundtrack, since then i have been searching AlGreen in youtube and discovering all sorts of other great music. I have always been into laid back songs and have often skipped through albums to find that one slow love song. With this collection you get some of the best of Algreen ...
Advantages: a wonderful return of an american master Disadvantages: lyrics
popular music the first time lied in how he could brilliantly fuse the two on record yet couldn't in real life, using the same mountains of cocaine that did in Sly. When he decided to sober himself up and really commit himself to the ministry, he cut off all the old places he used to go while he was high, one of them being secular music. Saying "old Hands leave me alone" isn't just a way for Al to tell his demons not to tempt him, it's a way for him to appreciate the joyful stimuli of sex without craving the not so joyful stimuli of blow.
You can hear that sophisticated sexuality in ?Play to Win? and ?I've been Thinkin' Bout You.? ?Play to Win?'s power comes from the con of its premise. Green plays the role of down home seducer, crooning, caressing and seducing his muse into believing that his love is so good that it can make her forget ...
?s. The architect, Tom Wright a British Architect was given the task of designing the iconic hotel. The owners wanted the hotel to be iconic to Dubai, much like the Eifel Tower is to Paris, or the Sydney Opera House is to Sydney. They wanted it to be a centrefold of Dubai, a building that would stand out from the skyline.
The owners had decided to build the hotel on an artificial island and thus wanted the shape and design to reflect this; hence the shape resembles that of a boat, or a boat sail.
Here is an interesting fact, the reason the Burj Al Arab was built on an artificial island was primarily down to strict Alcohol agreements in place at the time. Due to the strict Islamic rules still applied the alcohol agreements meant that they could not serve alcohol so close to the sea, don?t know why. So the owners decided that by creating the hotel ...

Album Notes
Pairing soul legend Al Green with hip-hop producers James Poyser and Amir "Questlove" Thompson may seem like a dicey prospect to old school fans, but those same fans will celebrate LAY IT DOWN. The album plays like a return to the classic sound of 1970s albums like LET'S STAY TOGETHER and I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU without sounding slavishly retro, while the guest stars and the crack studio band accentuate the Reverend's still-vital genius. Like Green's classic work, LAY IT DOWN blends Southern soul, funk, jazz, blues, and balladry into a gorgeously smooth concoction that is steamy, surging, mellow, and moving all at once. The title track, a duet with Anthony Hamilton, kicks things off in style with a floating, string-sweetened vibe that showcases the restrained prowess of both singers. (Hamilton also appears on the groove-driven "You've Got the Love I Need.") Other highlights include the ballad "No One Like You," and duets with John Legend and Corinne Bailey Rae. Brilliant in its controlled passion and silky, atmospheric mood, LAY IT DOWN is a latter-day soul gem from one of the genre's masters.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (p.71) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[T]here's no replicating Green's heaven-sent voice. On slow-jams like 'Too Much,' Green's instrument is in remarkable fettle, gliding from burly lower-register growls to an ethereal falsetto."
