a title. It is known variously as Four Symbols, Runes and Led Zeppelin IV but what ever you call it it's undoubtedly a work of genius that has stood the test of time brilliantly.Featuring rare footage of Led Zeppelin in concert plus rare live radio broadcasts and interviews with all four members of Led Zeppelin this is the ultimate review of one of the land marks of rock world.Features highlights from Rock 'n' Roll, Black Dog, Stairway To Heaven, Going To California, When The Levee Breaks and Four Sticks.
Advantages: Stairway To Heaven, Superb musicianship, Brilliantly crafted songs Disadvantages: Not nearly long enough
...is the only tune on led zep 4 that isnt really based on a meaty riff, instead the song is based around a rather clever acoustic sound and only really becomes a raging rock monster when it nears its climax, which to be fair is probabaly the best climax to a song ever, the end guitar solo in particular is heavenly

Well what better to start with than this is constantly voted the best rock album ever made, every single song on this album is a genuine bonafide classic and everyone of the songs on this album will be played dozens of times each on rock radio stations around the world every single day for the rest of your life and probabaly for the rest of any of your relatives, relatives, relatives lifes probabaly.
The track on this album that gets the most airplay is undoubtedly stairway to heaven, which for those of you unlucky enough never to have heard of it, is the song that gets voted the best rock song ever made more than any other, but if you look at the facts that becomes rather unsurprising, I mean that one song alone has officially spent more than 50 years of continous play on the many legal radio stations across the world , but the amount of airplay its had can probabaly be doubled if you think about how much pirate radio stations have played that tune to death as well, perhaps more amazing is the fact that stairway is the only tune on led zep 4 that isnt really based on a meaty riff, instead the song is based around a rather clever acoustic sound and only really becomes a raging rock monster when it nears its climax, which to be fair is probabaly the best climax to a song ever, the end guitar solo in particular is heavenly
This isn't a one trick pony album though for instance one of the slower tracks on the album, when the levee breaks officially has the most sampled drum-beat ever and is quite the monster of a song as well
The two songs black dog and rock n roll are both major rock radio staples which both have riffs to die for, misty mountain hop, going to calafornia and four sticks all show a slightly tenderer side to the led zep musical pallette and between them provide some really good acoustic pieces and then finally there is battle of evermore which is hard to describe to say the least but is like a little folk song but worth having a good listen to, if nothing else just to see how Robert Plants vocals are much stronger and powerful in the song than Sandy Dennys from the band fairport convention and to see how Jimmy Page implements his mandolin to good effect
As for individual performances on the album all four members played their part in making what is quite possibly the most jaw dropping musical statement ever made and you get the feeling they knew it was something really special when they made it because they couldn't be bothered to even give the album a proper name or at least put the band name on the front, the only way the album was identifiable is if you knew what you were looking at and it takes an album and a half to create its own identity
Overall this is not just a landmark album and it is not just a musical statement it is in fact a work of art and if you are into rock music the chances are you will agree, the singing on this album is fantasticly emotive and powerful, the guitar work is fantastic to the point where some people think its never been bettered by anyone and the rhythm section of John Bonham and John Paul Jones is a masterclass in how to put real music together
This is a genuinely breath-taking album and it is one of the few albums out there that is worth 6 stars if you dont own it, invest in a copy, you won't be disappointed
"For the record as some of you have already pointed out, this review is already on play.com as are my other reviews, but as i'm the one who wrote them I figure no harm has been done because i'm not trying to take credit for someone elses work, supershaggy is one of my alter egos, I hope that clears some things up"
Advantages: Some of the greatest rock'n'roll ever recorded Disadvantages: Simply none
...I was always a big Led Zeppelin fan, she was more into Elton John. When the band played the Hard Rock theatre in Stretford that year I had to go, 2 tickets were a must. I think it only cost us about £3, have I ever spend money better than that I wonder. The Hard Rock (no connection with the chain of that name today) was actually a former supermarket and had the ambience to match. Still this was Led Zeppelin at their peak and their fourth album and ... ...second track on this album. Led in by the cymbals and driving drumming of John Bonham with the powerful lead guitar of Jimmy Page the track is pure brilliance. Played live and loud it propels adrenalin round your veins at breakneck speed. Robert Plant’s vocals are just sufficient to reign above the backing. On this form Led Zeppelin are unsurpassed masters of powerful rock. The album though has eight tracks and there is not one among them which ...

Track listing: 1) Black Dog 2) Rock And Roll 3) The Battle Of Evermore 4) Stairway To Heaven 5) Misty Mountain Hop 6) Four Sticks 7) Going To California 8) When The Levee Breaks As the name suggests, this was the 4th Zeppelin album and the one that really illustrates the versatility of the band, encompassing elements of folk and blues as well as their trademark hippy rock. I have never quite worked out what Black Dog is all about - apart from lauding ... ...women ain't got no soul. It's a quirky tune with quirky lyrics but somehow it works (8/10) Rock And Roll could have been produced by Ronseal - it does exactly what it says on the tin. It is no more than a standard rock n roll riff with lyrics that have no real meaning but celebrate the rock n roll genre. Great party track (8/10) The Battle Of Evermore takes you back to a mystical Arthurian world and has a haunting, medieval feel to it. Perhaps not ...

Advantages: That I own it!! Disadvantages: Only 8 songs.
...is that they are by Led Zeppelin.
Black Dog - This song made heavy metal. Even more influencial to the genre than 'Born To Be Wild' by Steppenwolf.
Rock 'n' Roll - The clue's in the name, get it?
The Battle of Evermore - If there was a 1970s soundtrack to the fairy scenes in Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' this would be the leading track.
Staiway To Heaven - I know no words to describe this song. It is the best song ever written (yes, ... ...exactly the type of which Led Zeppelin are famous for.
I've said all I can. Now if you want to find out where nearly all modern day bands get their inspiration from, then this'll give you a pretty big clue (and it's not the Beatles!). Well, don't waste your time reading this, get down the record store and buy it!!!

Advantages: wonderful lyrics and music Disadvantages: price?
Led Zeppelin are maybe one of the most important bands in the 70s (but not only) and the members are: Robert Plant vocals Jimmy "Mr Zoso" Page guitar John "Bonzo" Bonham drums John Paul Jones bass, mandolin Led Zeppelin's first 4 albums are all very good but the 4th album, simply called Led Zeppelin, with a farmer on the cover (very good cover!) is maybe the best and a sort of climax of their works! All the tunes are very good and worth words to describe ... ...the best known song by Led Zeppelin: long , sweet, sad. "There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven" is the famous beginning of this song. The album worth the expense only for this song! Wonderful lyrics and music (maybe Jimmy Page at his best as musician and writer!) "Misty mountain hop" is maybe about drugs and hippies ,maybe it's a sort of Woodstock (the great concert about love and peace took place ...

Advantages: Epic songs, stunning solo performances, amazing finale Disadvantages: Only 8 songs long
...here is my review.
Led Zeppelin are the worlds greatest ever rock band. This is not a controversial statement. They broke new ground with their blend of blues and rock and spawned million inferior imitators and, more significantly, paved the way for heavy metal. This is where people are mislead. The public perception of the band to the uninitiated is of a boozy, egotistical, heavy metal band. While the egotistical part is true, they created some ... ...just there to prove that Led Zeppelin werent all Rock and Blues.
One of there most famous songs, When the Levee Breaks provides a huge counterpoint to the last two songs. This is a massive song. The bass is huge, the drumming is huge and Page is sublime. This is one of Plants defining performances under the banner of Led Zeppelin and the song signalled that this band would now pass into the status of the legendary. It is an incredible way to end ...

Advantages: Folk tales, gentle acoustics, haunting vocals strung along with perfectly distorted guitars, the height of rock n roll!!! Disadvantages: NONE
hoppy ales hehe.Plant's voice seems to get lost in bass and it's wattage has been reduced to a deep whine or plea, untill the riffs pause for breath and Plant's voice surfaces it seems as if the riffs are sufacating him and he keeps gasping for breath, engenious. The lyrics are so amazingly poetic 'on the misty mountains where the spirits fly' called on by the rolling and streaming drums, the backbone for the song seems as if a flowing Jones keyboard has been up to some tricks and is flowing power all through this song, amazing riffs!
Four sticks is amazing and is not included on any ledzeppelin best of or remastered so you greatest hits owners who think you have all the led zep.IV songs nope not this hidden gem.Rolling distortion from Page's guitars and Plant's most addictive posesive lyrics which climb up and down with the guitar melodies as ...

Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica); Jimmy Page (electric, acoustic & 12-string guitar, mandolin); John Paul Jones (bass, keyboards); John Bonham (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Sandy Denny (vocals); Ian Stewart (piano). Recorded at Headley, Grange, Hampshire, Island Studios, London, England; Sunset Sound, Los Angeles, California. Digitally remastered by Jimmy Page & George Marino. LED ZEPPELIN IV is the definitive Led Zeppelin recording. It was on LED ZEPPELIN IV that the band's sound and concept, Plant's vocals, and Page's arranging skills finally crystallized into something completely distinct and original. The earthy hedonism of their earlier work was deepened and extended on rockers like "Black Dog," "Rock And Roll" and "Misty Mountain Hop." Their interest in traditional folk music (and a more tender form of sentiment) found fresh expression on "Going To California" and "The Battle Of Evermore" (with Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention). And "When The Levee Breaks" was yet another powerhouse blues. LED ZEPPELIN IV was also the recording which produced Led Zeppelin's most celebrated composition, "Stairway To Heaven". From its familiar opening chord progression, the song steadily grows in intensity, reflecting Led Zeppelin's growing interest in metaphysical imagery, gradually transforming itself from a folkish ballad into a rocking anthem.
