In the turbulent yet magical era of the 60's where psychadelia was like a fine wine or a soothing drug, while Hendrix's teeth playing guitar music and on stage guitar burnings were a retro occurance there was a more classical yet original feel to the 60's. The Yardbirds were one of the pioneering rock bands of the 60's but were overshadowed by the success of Hendrix, the stones and the beatles, they consisted of two main British figureheads, on the bass there was Jimmy Page,on the lead guitar was best mate Jeff Beck.

After tremendous success and fine musical blending and experimentation Beck and Page left the Yardbirds and went in seperate directions to form their own bands, while Jeff Beck formed his infamous Jeff Beck group with hits such as 'I ain't supersticious' the magical, folk lover Page decided to form his own band, this consisted of Jimmy Page on guitars, Robert Plant as the vocals,John Bonham(the best ever drummer in history) on the drums and John Paul Jones on Bass.

The band were undecided on their name that is untill a clumsy reporter claimed that 'the band would sink like a lead balloon' the band decided on their name it would be Led Zeppelin!

The album contains pure and utter raw power, bursting power and magical packages of potential energy ready to explode out like compressed gas.Crashing rythmic drums, dmashing coherent symbols and loud dronings on the bass drums and possesive strikes of the drums making use of every part of the drum kit for each tune, each melody the whole album is carried on this magic carpet up to the heavens at night to the moon and stars!!

The Vocals are so soothing and unique Robert Plant sings with so much emotion you can sense it in every song, his pitch and tone is perfectly matched with his moods and feelings to put together a magical scream echoing upon the air, drifting over the hills and far away into the night sky, pure magic, pure power!!!

Page was voted many times as the Greatest ever British guitarist he was described as a wizard,a folk pioneer,a magical genious literally every note he plays on his guitar flows into another and another,it feels as if the song is floating on a river, drifting gently down a stream on a summers day and all of a sudden the energetic drum crashes sccop it up and skyrocket the song into space.

John Paul Jones gave certain songs more magic than any of the other band memebers and put together a saucerful of secrets in every album, one of my fave tracks by Led Zeppelin is on this powerful debut, 'Your time is gonna come' tis a very sad and magical song which i will never be able to comprehend, the beutiful sob beutiful organ playing at the start makes me feel as if i'm lying in a churchyard by a river lazing in the haze of miday, with amazingly thumping and vibrating bass solos Jones is a bass wizard,he welds that guitar as if it were the backbone of every song as an energy reserve in case the drums all of a sudden stop and the band fall, the bass solos will re route power and hold this song up and never let it down!

Led zeppelin were very unique not only as the best ever Rock band in my opinion but their magical brilliance and folk like talent was influenced by their love for blues music,Zeppelin got me into such beutiful blues music like Bert Janch and his Black water side song.Few of the songs of this debut are covers from Blues legends, their legacy lives on,Bert Janches black water side was covered as 'Black mountain side' which was instrumental brilliance, and the magically explosive 'Babe i'm gonna leave you' was a brilliant cover of the opera like women vocals of the original, this cover is the icing on the cake, pure and utter brilliance, the legacy of blues music lives on in the eyes of Led Zeppelin, pure love and admiration explode into this song, crashing drums followed in parralel alignment with Pages guitars rock!

The album opens with a powerful track 'Good times, bad times' the blend of pages guitar and crashing Bonham drums build up an enormous amount of tension untill the rythm explodes into the vocals of Plant 'In the days of my youth' like an orrange, remove the peel to reach the sweet fruit in the middle.Magical guitar melodies flow up and down throoughout relasing energy into the brilliant chorus which flashes into a brilliant Jones bass solo which flows into the Wizdom of Page's guitar solo, could any album have a better opening track!

Babe i'm gonna leave you is carried by a soothing flowing acoustic guitar melody, then Plantsmoody vocals sooth the mood untill the tantalisingly tense climax is reached as the bass drums come banging on the door as if to wake this song up from a beutiful deep sleep,Plants vocals explode with pitch into another bass drum knock which explodes into an overpowering explosion of perfect rock continious symbol crashing drive this song into rythmic perfection together with Page's rythmic guitar strumming and spanish like acoustics like Peter Green's Oh well song from Fleetwood mac,the rythm changes so much you feel as if your drifting downstream on a raft and you hit some rapids then hit calm waters then all of a sudden drift into some even faster rapids!

You shook me is a blues/rock brew with droning Plant lyrics carried by the blues guitar riffs and slow paced drumming make up an artisticly beutiful song.Occasional drum symbol crashes add explosive power to the song. The way Plant's vocals are intertwined with Page's guitar work is pure magic.Harmonica's,quiet organs by Jones blow this song into more magical riffs, pure brilliance!

Dazed and confused kicks off with one of Jone's ace bass solos which is blended in turn with bended guitar strings and Plant vocals, untill the song swings and bends up and down,it feels as if you were on a Helter Skelter then you fly away up to the top by Bonhams crashing drums to have another go.The song sounds so very haunting untill that mood is but an echo in the distance were all is not what it seems,a very dark yet haunting atmosphere is created by bass solos and wicked guitar bending untill Bonhams drums carry the song into the sky with tremendous pace,I would be uttering the Hendrix infamous words here 'Scuse me while i kiss the sky' because that's what it feels like, pure haunting magic!

My fave track on the album'Your time is gonna come' starts with a magical Jones organ playing, gasp, sob it's sooo beutiful,i do feel as if i am in a churchyard by a river lazing in the haze of midday, sob so beutiful. The pace slows down into a more quiet organs untill comes out of the mist the crashing drums of the apocalypse,Beutiful Page acoustic melodies come out of the mist next followed by Plants beutiful yet soothing vocals, the organs return for the magical build ups between the chorus and the intro's,the chorus explodes as if releasing magical fairy dust in every direction, lovely guitar melodies appear to cover the rythmic acoustic background, the organs spit magic all over and all through this song, best track in my opinion, sob so lovely,i urge you all to listen to this song!

Black mountain side is Page mimicing Bert Janchs original there is a faint woodern drum sound beat in the background this is pure magic and is expressed by Page's love for blues it is very beutiful guitar work on steel string acoustic guitars, this song also serves as a nice build up to the powerful next track 'Communication breakdown'.

Communication breakdown is one of Les Zeppelin's most well known songs which is not suprising carried by possesive coherent drum crashing, echoe's of Plants vocals all over the place, high pitched Hendrix like beutiful crazy guitar solos, this song is literally anarchy pure and simple blended with the talent of each band member welding their instruments to extreme perfection, anarchy i say,but it is magical anarchy!

I can't quit you baby is similar to you shook me it has the same rythm,it is purely and solely a blues song, amazing, arcan guitar riffs, mental guitar solos which bend up and down, engeniously thwarted crashing drums which change rythm so quickly it feels as if i'm drifting downstream on that raft again,Plant's lyrics are carried by brilliant Jones bass lines and Page's guitar riffs and magical guitar solos,Blues riff you say, a magical Led Zeppelin blues riff i say!!

The album climaxes with the brilliant'how many more times',which is brimming with excitement, the power builds up to all extremes, the tension is overflowing, the dam has broken open using crazy guitar stumming together with Bonhams crashing, possesive drumming acting as the ultimate damnbusting explosive, relaesing the magical river down the valley to cover it in a sheet of magical, exciting, echoing power, electrifying the valley with 1 million volts of electricity.Haunting, misty, hazy gaps fill this song and mix a mood up in a fine brew, drink it i plea to you drink it because you will experience what Rock is all about people, drink this brew let it fill you with life, electrify your soul and bring you to life!!!
