ok - here goes.
first opinion in 6 months - my gf is purdy and she threatened to withdraw all privileges if i didnt post an opinion...

anyway the year is 1995, mixmag says 'go buy leftism - its brilliant' and they were right.
i bought the cassette as i was only a poor student at the time as opposed to being a poor working person.
took it back to my cardboard box and stuck it on, i was having a pot noodle at the time but nevertheless it did exactly as it said on the tin.

possibly a life-defining moment in time for me - but if you havent got it go judge for yourself.

By the way, i did get the cd later thanks to brittania - what a scam that was eh, those were the days... and it still sounds brill,

Also, I met up with Paul Daley at an afterparty one night where he had been djing - almost as good a dj as a producer.

1. Release the pressure - cracker of a opening track, sets the mood perfectly (10)

2. Afro-left - at the time well ahead of its time (10)

3. Melt - hmmm hang on, time has had its toll on my mind, i have to play this one again, the name doesnt ring a bell...
Right thats better, could have been a brilliant opening track on any other dance album, its so good.](10)
There is a bit of a twist in it - oh shit its track 4 now...

4. Song of life - flip me its almost as if it were mixed or something.
Anyway slowly builds into a monster tune, a classic dance music moment.
When i first heard the album and realised it was only the 4th track and knew i had discovered something quite brilliant.
I am listening to it now probably 6-7 years after it was made and it's still awesome! (10)

5. Original - ok so there are some songs on this too, seems to be a change in pace, sounds great when you're trolleyed, lyrics could be corny if you are that way inclined. Hits the spot.(9)

6. Black flute - thump thump and we're off again. (9)

7. Space shanty - one of my favourite tracks on the album. Definitely best on a good sound system, could scare the cat but.(10)

8. Inspection check 1 - get everyting ship shape and shine - boo selectah!
Classic when the beats kick in. (9)

9. Storm 3000 - unique sound at the time, been copied since but never bettered (10)

10. Open up - classic tune with JR on vocals (9)

11. 21stC Poem - after the previous 10 tracks it all has to end somewhere, and it is a finale, after it finishes you wanted to stick it back on again - sign of a true classic album.
Oh and watch out for the end bit - could damage your speakers.(9)

Summary - people slag off dance music, but this album changed a lot of attitudes.
Very few have the longevity this does.
Younger people than i discovered it in later years and loved it too.
If you have never heard it i suggest you do - you know it makes sense.
