INTRODUCTION TO THE ARTIST
I think we can quite safely say that everyone knows of Amy Winehouse, but does everyone know about her? Did you know she is the first British female artist to claim 5 Grammy awards in one night?
She may be in the tabloids day in day out for things she is getting up to in her personal life but you have to give credit where it is due she is also in the papers a lot because she is good at what she does in her professional life and her album Back to Black represents this.
Amy Winehouse was born on the 14th September 1983 in London. Her musical talents were recognised when a demo tape landed in the hands of record label "Island" who instantly signed her up
INTRODUCTION TO BACK TO BLACK
The album of 11 tracks followed the first album released by Amy titled "Frank" which was released in 2003. Back to Black was ...
Advantages: New fantastic female british RnB artist Disadvantages: None
For me the young songstress Amy Winehouse is a prolific performer. The atmosphere which fills out any room when she performs, or even when you play her CD is astounding. Amy Winehouse is a 19 year old who hails from North London, who writes most of her music on guitar. Not only is Amy’s voice reminiscent of a classic 40’s Jazz singer, she incorporates, Jazz, Hip Hop and R’n’B into each song, but instead of following the norm, Amy adds her own unique stamp to each track. For me the fact that music throughout the decades had influenced a young female (who could be twice her age) is amazing, when listening to her raw voice, it sounds like all her troubles in life have emerged through music. When listening to Winehouse’s debut album, Frank, it is not hard to notice the musical influences who of which she has ...

Album Notes

Recorded at East Iris Studio, The Parlor and Oceanway Studios, Nashville, Tennessee, and Air Lyndhurst, London, England. Long before the Christian pop movement began exploding in the late '90s, Amy Grant was at the forefront of the movement, one of the first singers to show that pop music sensibilities could be successfully mated with spiritual concerns outside the realm of gospel music. Ironically, it's the gospel tradition that Grant returns to on LEGACY: HYMNS & FAITH in order to celebrate her 25th anniversary as a recording artist (hard to believe it's been so long, isn't it?). Though she draws mostly on traditional spiritual material here, as the album's title indicates, the production is consistently innovative. The atmospheric treatment given to "Softly and Tenderly" wouldn't have sounded out on place on Emmylou Harris's Daniel Lanois-produced WRECKING BALL album, and it's a safe bet that "My Jesus, I Love Thee" has seldom been given a full-blown Celtic treatment before. Grant's obvious committment to this material is matched step by step here by her mercurial artistic spirit.
Album Reviews
Entertainment Weekly (5/31/02, p.109) - "...There's sure enough stylistic doversity - American Celtic rock, and Lanoisesque chamber music, as well as Sunday-morning solemnity - to make LEGACY transcend your average trip down Methodist memory lane..." - Rating: B
