Additional notes
Album Notes: Original score written by James Horner. Recorded at Air Studios, Lyndhurst Hall and Metropolis Studios, London, England. Includes liner notes by Ed Zwick. In writing for the silver screen, the successful composer must in some way evoke the director's vision of the story, the plot twists and the internal motivations that drive its characters and situations. Thus we have Bernhard Hermann's edgy, post-modern responses to Hitchcock's complex psychological situations, Nina Rota's puckish, circus-like counterpoint to Fellini's ambiguous allegories, and John Williams' sweeping, larger-than-life fanfares for the saturday afternoon escapades of George Lucas and Steven Speilberg's mythical heroes. There is something of a sepia tint to all Horner's music in LEGENDS OF THE FALL, as if one were leafing through the worn and crumbling pages of an ancient photo album, in search of roots and ancestors. But with the sweeping theme of "The Ludlows," Horner manages to suggest the family's origins in Cornwall, England through a folkish theme whose sing-singy contour must go back several centuries--thus setting the stage for a brooding tale of family conflict. "To The Boys," with the distant thunder of drums and the noble cry of brass manages to convey both the bond of fellowship and the gruesome sundering of sudden loss. "Alfred Moves To Helena" suggests the scope and breadth of life in post-Civil War Montana, even as "Farewell/Descent Into Madness" hints at the vastness and loneliness of the endless frontier. Especially moving are the passages of "Revenge," as past and present co-mingle in a surreal, dreamy blur of bass drums, metallic percussion, fiddle, shakuhachi and ominous siren cries.
..."She was like the water that freezes inside a rock and breaks it apart. It was no more her fault than it is the fault of the water when the rock shatters." ? One Stab, Legends of the Fall
If you ever find yourself with 2 hours and 7 minutes to fill, and want a front seat on the sort of emotional rollercoaster that will leave you weepy and drained, then look no further than Legends of the Fall.
It has all of the elements that are needed for a real epic. Stunning scenery well thought out characters, a story that spans decades, war, death, passion, madness and most of all tonnes of insight into the human condition. If my description alone doesn?t do it for you, well it also won the 1995 Oscar for Cinematography, and was nominated for 8 other awards, so that gives you an idea of quality.

...This film was first released in 1994 and over the years I have seen it a few times. Then on mothers day my wonderful children bought it for me along with the dvd of love actually. So seeing as there was a few ops about love actually and none about legends of the fall I decided to write about this one.
Jim Harrison bases the film on a novel. I can?t comment on the book, as I haven?t read it yet.
The film tells the story of a family of a man and his three sons who live on a ranch in the foothills of the Montana Rockies in the 1900s. The film is told through the memories of an old Indian man who used to work for the family and through letters various members of the family had sent to each other.
The mains cast and character description.
DECKER Played by Paul Desmond.
As I said before the story is told through his eyes. He had...

Advantages: Excellent Movie Sountrack. Disadvantages: None!
...memories of this movie and of the time it was released in the charts to me and I just love recalling it all. This track was released in 1985 and reached number 15 in the billboard charts. The music video to accompany this love song was taken from clips of the St Elmo's Fire movie also. This is an excellent track, that?s an all time favourite to me.
Overall Opinion Of St Elmo's Fire Soundtrack.
Well as you have probably gathered from reading this review, I really love this soundtrack a lot. I have had this original one for over twenty years. I first had it on cassette and then upgraded it to CD. It really looks a bit tatty on it, but that?s because it has been played a lot by me over the years, as I love it so much. This CD was one of the first movie soundtracks that really caught my attention because of the great meanings all the songs...
